bikkuri bahn
IHT blog article asking for reader's opinions about what they think are the best and worst. Like the polls used on forums, the problem here is they don't lay down any criteria or definitions for what makes a system "good"- which leads to alot of apples to oranges comparisons or anecdotal examples. But interesting nonetheless. DC metro gets pummeled. http://rendezvous.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/01/31/whats-the-worst-and-best-metro-in-the-world/ Link to comment
Jace
Can't get to the article for some reason, but I'm not surprised at WMATA taking a lot of flak. They're still struggling to adjust to life after their big Fort Totten wreck a few years ago (http://www.ntsb.gov/doclib/reports/2010/RAR1002.pdf). Since then their operations have been a mess as the system is run in manual mode much, much more frequently, while signalling system failures are reported and acknowledged (often resulting in slow orders). All of this is long overdue. I was truly shocked when I first read the NTSB report. Determination of track occupancy, the most basic function of a signalling system, was for all intents and purposes not working system-wide! It's only a wonder that they haven't had more wrecks.
