YouTube user nimo5 just posted a new video at Ichibata Electric Railway's Izumotaisha-mae Station:

Taken on New Year's Day 2013, every train was completely full arriving and leaving the station because of the New Year's Day pilgrims to the Izumo Taisha shrine nearby, arguably the oldest Shinto shrine in Japan.

Izumo-Taisha station seems in the process of being given a facelift...good, as previous videos showed it looking decidedly weary...

The trains repainted back into Nankai and Keio colours add an interesting touch...

Given that Izumo Taisha is one of the most important Shinto shrines in all of Japan (only the Ise Shrine south of Nagoya is supposedly more important), no wonder why the station got a facelift before New Year's Day 2013, where you get a LOT of people showing up at the shrine to pray for good luck in the new year. It's also busy because this is the only rail link to Izumo Taisha ever since JR West closed the Taisha Line 12 years ago (though the JR Taisha Station building still exists because it has been preserved has a historical building).

If you are subscribed to nimo5's channel on YouTube, you saw a number of trains repainted back into the original Keio and Nankai liveries a few months ago. They needed to do that, because the "old" liveries were starting to get old with chipped and peeling paint jobs.

:) These videos help to plan our next trip to Japan in a few months time. We visited this line in 2011, but didn't make it to the shrine. With the repainted stock a revisit might make it into our itinerary.

By the way, nimo5 just posted a new video on why Izumotaisha-mae station is so busy just a few days ago:

These are videos taken inside the Izumo Taisha shrine, plus a short trip on the ichibata Electric Railway as it approaches Izumotaisha-mae Station.
