Eisenbahn
Since Independence, Singapore has built a very good rail system. The 1000mm gauge train from Malaysia comes into Singapore but the Singapore network itself is in standard gauge except for a few light rail enclaves that work their way around public housing estates. Many of the stations are quite posh and give good people flows. There is a touch on touch off card system. Some trains on the network are driverless. Link to comment
Nick_Burman
The old Singapore station is no more. Trains from Malaysia end at a new station at Woodlands on the outskirts of town. Cheers NB Link to comment
Mudkip Orange
The old Singapore station is no more. Trains from Malaysia end at a new station at Woodlands on the outskirts of town. Why would they abandon such a high-quality right-of-way? 100% grade separated? Is it going to be repurposed as MRT? Link to comment
Eisenbahn
There is an interesting Wikipedia article on the closure of the historic Tanjong Pagar Station, the key phrase of which is "thus freeing up the land for development". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tanjong_Pagar_rail Link to comment
Eisenbahn
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tanjong_Pagar_railway_station is the correct reference Link to comment
Mudkip Orange
Well that's pretty dumb. Everyone knows if you want to build condos where there are currently railway tracks you put the condos *on top* of the railway tracks. Silly... Link to comment
