Bangkok Sky Train

Eisenbahn

Recommended Posts

Bangkok has some new rail (standard gauge) infrastructure. The new airport line runs between Phaya Thai and the new airport. It is built up on viaducts as is the new Sky Train network (two lines) which has an adjacient station at PhayaThai.

The Sky Train is pictured below.  There is also another new standard gauge Metro network.

Generall speaking this has transformed the way people get around in Bangkok.

There is a touch on touch off card system.

Thailand is apparently committed to 1000mm gauge and the State rail Authority is planning a new 1000mm suburban line for Bangkok itself.

Here are some more photographs I have taken of BTS trains with some very nice designs.

I wish some company would make models available of these trains (preferably in N gauge).

Sadly there seems to be a total lack of any models available for modeling Thailands railways.

I wonder if there is anyone on here who has tried scratching building or designing a Thailand layout?

???

Hi Dabsan. I have just looked at the specs of the Cybershot. They are far superior to the entry level Coolpix I have; also in Australia they are 4 times the price I paid. So a much better camera.  I havent decided what sort of new camera I will get yet or where I will buy it. I will be back in Bangkok in mid February so I might look around there.

You say you particularly like the BTS Skytrain. Let me know if you want any stations or particular trains photographed when I am there. I want to get shots of the various airport trains, the Skytrain & Metro and some of the older 1000mm trains plus some of the Viaduct infrastructure. I was there earlier in the year but only for a day and I didnt get to photograph much.

The Skytrain & the Metro seems to have transformed life in Bangkok.

Dabsan, The BTS Skytrains are Siemens MoMo variants that run in Germany, Vienna, Oslo, China, Melbourne. I wondered if models had been produced for  versions that run in these  other countries. ie and that could be modified to look like the Thai ones.

Hi Ochanomizu

Yes, the BTS Skytrain sets also look a bit different to  the ones running in those many other countries. It would be interesting to know what the common elements are. The underground MRT in Bangkok also runs Siemens MoMos but I have never ridden on it or seen a photo of its 3 car set to know if they are the same as the BTS Skytrain.

Ah yes...hot and humid it is. Being in a train, a shop or one's hotel is always a plus until the sun goes down.
