westfalen
I don't what's stranger, the cat just lying there or the people who don't seem to notice it. When my sister-in-law was station master at a small suburban station she had a cat that would sit inside the ticket window and swat the hands of passengers who reached in to grab their tickets. Densha
Meh, it's think it's just commuter behaviour: ignoring everything except the time it costs to get to work/home. Link to comment
bill937ca
This cat obviously needs to be promoted to station master at the very least. 2 Link to comment
200系
Or, more likely, seeing the reaction (or rather lack of) to everything around him/her the cat is native to the area, and daily commuters are simply used to it's presence. It's little things like this, among a lot of other things, that make me love Japan as much as I do. Speaking of cats, I guess most people here are familiar with Tama, the stationmaster (and deputy mayor) on the Wakayama railway, right? www.youtube.com/watch?v=znay2QuIOD4 www.youtube.com/watch?v=_WVPwJIoPWk 1 Link to comment
to2leo
The cat is sleeping there because it is warm. 2 Link to comment
JR 500系
Cute! Yap the warmth of the gate keeps the cat happy, so much so it is not bothered by the hands fondering its wiskers while the tickets are retrived... On another note, it amazes me to see the honesty of the Japanese. A ticket machine WITHOUT gate in the middle of the walkway is truely dependant on HONESTY only, as i believe during a flood of people there will be those that 'sneak' through without paying... Such is the good honesty of Japanese to pass through the ticket gate for payment... If this happens here in Sillypore, you can definately expect to see lots of upaid customers sneaking EVERYDAY and you have to install a staff to monitor all these... Link to comment
Densha
@JR500 Err... well that's how it works with all railways in the Netherlands and indeed many people don't pay and and thus they have tons of staff. But that has always been like that in the past except that now we use a digital card system that actually supports a gate system what the paper tickets didn't. They are planning on installing gates on large stations, but railfan-wise I'm not happy about that. Link to comment

Excellent. That conjoures up a crazy mental image. :grin Link to comment
