stevenh
I was following the line from Hyogo Station to Wadamisaki... trying to work out why they would even bother keeping the rails... then I saw why: https://maps.google.com.au/?ll=34.661406,135.161831&spn=0.00193,0.004128&t=h&z=19 3 Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
Yes, that's KHI's Hyogo rolling stock plant. Though the E5's are delivered by barge/ship to Sendai Port, rather than by rail. Link to comment
Densha
You should take a look with street view on the street that goes through the plant. (http://goo.gl/maps/n9HTR) And here: http://goo.gl/maps/XSvOl Link to comment
Guest Closed Account 1
That's interesting how the little yard looks concrete and the switches outside the yard are wooden. Link to comment
Jcarlton
All sorts of new rolling stock in that yard, including some that has gone way East unless unless there is a Connecticut Prefecture with a JR Metro North Line Link to comment
200系
It's really interesting to 'explore' the KHI facility this way, thanks for the link! You can spot quite a few N700系 cars in the various images as well. One of the interesting things about the KHI facility, is the preservation, on site, of two of their products 181系 KuHa 181-1 (formerly KuHa 151-1 if I'm not mistaken) build in 1958(?) rebuild to 181系 in 1965. And 0系7000番台, 21形7008番台 delivered by KHI on the 1st of June 1983 as 21形2012番台 as one of the replacement cars for formation Nh7, displacing 21形1015番台 which in turn was placed in Kodama formation K86. Nh7 became part of JR West's fleet after the J.N.R. breakup, and 21形2012番台 remained part of this formation until it was dissolved in 1997. 21形2012番台 became part of JR West's 0系 renewal program, and was renumbered to 21形7034番台 and was placed in formation R27. In 2002 she was again renumbered, this time to 21形7008番台 when she became part of formation (W)R61. On December 14 2008, R61 had the honor of being used for the final 0系 train, Hikari 347. 21形7008番台 is the only thing left from that train, as far as I'm aware. the two cars can be seen in the following street view links: https://maps.google.com.au/?ll=34.6601,135.159496&spn=0.00089,0.001742&t=h&layer=c&cbll=34.660124,135.159596&panoid=30gqhTMLeK4pC8oiD29RjA&cbp=12,206.13,,0,5.54&z=20 https://maps.google.com.au/?ll=34.660076,135.159394&spn=0.00089,0.001742&t=h&layer=c&cbll=34.660048,135.159277&panoid=m5-qHUK7Lx0Ly4F02A8Meg&cbp=12,125.21,,0,4.64&z=20 Another interesting Google maps tidbit, to me at least, is the image of 100系 formation P4 (instructional formation) at Shin-Shimonoseki: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Shimonoseki,+Yamaguchi,+Japan&hl=nl&ll=34.005542,130.944418&spn=0.000893,0.001742&sll=51.992171,4.494086&sspn=1.358093,3.56781&oq=shimon&hnear=Shimonoseki,+Yamaguchi,+Japan&t=h&z=20 1 Link to comment
tantousha
Used to live in Shimonoseki and I remember seeing that Shinkansen parked while taking the Sanyo line north... While I didn't know much about it, I do remember thinking how odd it was to see a shinkansen at ground level and that the overgrowth around it made it evident it hadn't moved in a while... bikkuri bahn
Some recent activity in the final prep area. Later in the video you can see the E5's waiting to be barged up to their northern home. *h/t to quashlo at SSC Link to comment
