Hobby Dreamer
Are there any sources for large structures that are not highrises? I'm thinking about making a hospital and am looking for building(s) that may work. Plan A is to use 3 buildings (one each on the North, West, and East) and maybe kit-bash an entrance using a rounded canopy or glass at 45 degrees. This would join the 3 buildings. BBBBBBBB BBBBBBBB AAAAAAAAAcccccccccccDDDDDDD AAAAAAAAAcccccccccccDDDDDDD cccccccccc Where the caps denote structures and the small "c" would be the canopy. (Sorry if this does not display correctly, but you probably get the idea) The canopy will be the entrance and emergency entrance. I have to measure space but may place this within a city block of Kato's Tram plating. If the plate's footprint is too large I will leave some space for parking or perhaps get one of those parking garages! If I need more than one plate then I may either build over the street, or place a building on a second plate and kit-bash a walkway above the street. The size of A and D need not be wide as shown. I've noticed that a lot of N scale structures that are large are almost unrealistic in how small their footprints are. If one imagines elevators and stairs there would be no room for anything else! bill937ca
Sometimes you have adapt your dreams to what is available. Tomytec has issued a few institutional buildings, but most of these are sold out. http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10182025 http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10116551 http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10116548 You might be able to use an apartment style building for one of the wings. http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10104416 Link to comment
Krackel Hopper
The reservation is closed, but may become available once it's re-released.. Greenmax modular kits - this would allow you to make a building as big as you'd like. New version - in 5 story w/ 4 story add-on http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10193663 Original version - 3 story w/ 2 story add-on (lots of photos) http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10084235 It would also depend on what you want your structure to look like.. but you could kit-bash some Walthers kits.. a few of these come to mind when you say "large" structures.. Hobby Dreamer
Thanks Bill and KH, for taking the time! I think I may use Kato's low rise structures as a first attempt because they convey the size of a hospital. Some of those Walthers kits would make great condos and they are interesting factory structures. There are some small companies that make semi-high-rise structures and I may ultimately explore these as its nice to have a layout with some gravitas. Maybe get a few and try to join them to be wide as well. I've been doodling around on a kit-bash train station and figure it will be about the size of a keyboard, in footprint. That seems a lot larger than many structures out there. Cheers Rick Link to comment
