JR 500系
Hi guys! i have a question here, can i know where you can buy a Torii Gate in N scale for your layout? I've tried searching around in HS, PJ and Popondetta but cant seem to find any. It's nice and good luck to have a Torii gate in the begining of your estate ~ Here's what a Torii gate look like: Hopefully one that looks like the one in Miyajima, or even a normal looking one is good, but has to be in traditional red of course. Thanks in advance! Link to comment
Serow
Hello, My Itsukushima Torii (Miyajima) was bought in a souvenir shop just next to the real torii. Link to comment

bill937ca
Good Old Diorama Series : Small Shrine I believe Greenmax is going to re-issue the warehouse but with a different item number and plastic bag packaging rather than a box. Link to comment
cteno4
its amazed me that greenmax or tomytec have not done an accessory set thats just a bunch of toriis in a few different shapes. handy for making long processions of them. they are not horrible to scratch build though. jeff Link to comment
JR 500系
Wow! Guess i didnt check good enough ~ Thanks for the linkys guys! I'm really into the Shinto Shrine set now, it looks great! Just need to plan out some space for it... Was really thinking of looking into just the Torii gate alone... The Pro-Hobby shrine Maiden & Shinto Shrine set is good, because i can get multiple torii and maidens without costing too much. I remember that Torii gates are usually situated in the front entrance & rear exit of each town-ship, so quite a few Torii gates are required... HHmmm kinda regretted not buying those Torii gate souviners when i was visiting Fushimi Inari Shrine last March... Link to comment
Krackel Hopper
A little different style from the Greenmax or Sankei.. Kobaru makes a lantern style.. If I'm understanding the translation corect, you can get a plain gate or about $7.50 USD or one where the lanterns are wired with LEDs for about $30 USD. Looks to come in two colors, white or red. http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10179266 - white http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10179267 - white LED http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10179264 - red http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10179265 - red LED Link to comment
JR 500系
Thanks Hopper! Unfortunately they are out of stock... Looking at the Red Un-LED versions ~ Nice! Any one has any experience using actual Torii sovuiners as N scale models that work really well? Link to comment
cteno4
These are probably one of the simplest things though to scratch build. it just some doweling or round styrene stock and then some rectangular stock. little carving if you want the curved cross pieces. to make detailed ones are a little tedious, but not horrible for a beginner to do with just a hobby knife, some wood or plastic stock, some glue, and some experimenting. actually probably a great little project to start doing stuff like this as you could start with a very simple one and then make some progressively more complex ones! start uber cheap with some wood toothpicks, skewers, coffee stirrers, or popsicle sticks and a hobby knife. really is a wonderfully simple place to try your hand at fiddling like this. hey if it does not work for you after a few attempts no big loss at all, but i think you should be able to make something pretty decent pretty quickly and easily. hey this guy whipped out great ones in T scale so N scale is a breeze! http://more-t-please.blogspot.com/2009/02/torii-gate.html few examples to draw from http://www.squidoo.com/torii http://kamidana.wordpress.com/2008/03/08/japan-shinto-shrine-gate-small-wood-model-torii-tori/ http://www.instructables.com/id/Construct-a-Japanese-Torii-Gate-for-Your-Garden/ heres an example we have discussed on the forum before of creating a really nice lantern one like the kobaru. while more advanced, still a project that does not take super skills, tools etc. you can get the smd leds prewired on magnet wire for $1 each. these have been on my list for a while to do! http://modelrail.otenko.com/n-scale-models/creating-a-shrine-torii-entrance there are some 1.80 ones available in japan http://item.hobidas.com/?searchbox=1&q=%E9%B3%A5%E5%B1%85&path=%E9%89%84%E9%81%93%3A%E9%89%84%E9%81%93%E6%A8%A1%E5%9E%8B%3AHO%2F16%E7%95%AA%E3%82%B2%E3%83%BC%E3%82%B8 cheers jeff 1 Link to comment

JR 500系
Oh Wow! Thanks Jeff for the valuable infomation and links! Yes i think scratch-building is the way to go since it's rather simple and doesn't cost a hand & a leg ~ Will definately try some when i get sometime! Cheers! Thanks bill937ca for the links to HS! Yap the Shinto Shrine looks great! However, i think i'm running out of real estate soon... Need to ask my Estate manager whether there is enough land to be set aside for this shrine... cteno4
jr, a few diagrams to help proportions and angles and such. easy to print out to the size you want, then just put it on your cutting board and tape a piece of waxed paper over it and then you can build it on top of that using some pins to hold stuff in place while glue drys. http://file.tookamiemitame.blog.shinobi.jp/a914992c.jpg http://www.imix.or.jp/bookmen/page37myoujinntorii.gif http://sin.to/ja/images/zu-torii01.gif http://www.city.okayama.jp/museum/sekizou1/04.html http://www.jref.com/japan/culture/religion/torii.shtml http://www.geocities.jp/miniuzi0502/torii/Tbunrui.html cheers jeff Link to comment

cteno4
Resurrecting this old thread as I just ran across ysk tori offering http://hlj.com/product/YSK-00300/Rld But really not as nice as Toni's torii selection at shapeways! http://www.shapeways.com/shops/kabutomodels Cheers Jeff 1 Link to comment
JR 500系
ah yes... That was like 3 years ago when I was looking for them, and found the beautiful tori gates from Toni... Also got some spare tori gates from unidentified seller... I guess I have enough gates for now unless I am doing the diorama for the Fushimi-Inari Shrine! :P It's amazing HLJ carries them though.. good find Jeff! Thanks for sharing! Link to comment
cteno4
It's odd that hlj carries the ysk and not HS. Jeff Link to comment
