Just one thing: Each car blinks at the join of the viaduct track and the station just after the last turnout. On the first video, there is also a loud click when the first car hits the join and then it blinks. On the night video, each car blinks at the exact same spot.

Wow kvp! You are spot on! Gotta give you a prize on noticing that! Yap I wondered what that is too... I actually tried making a video whereby the train slowly moves off from the station, but it always get stuck at that point and the loco is burning tyre. I wonder why... I seriously need to re-look at that point. It's really strange only the steam decides to hate that point...

Good one ¬ Actually I prefer the term Steam-Kansen ¬¬ Sounds cool actually!  :)

Thanks! I understand... But sometimes when the plan unfolds, you wish you've done another thing instead... I'm going to have the moving bus system in the middle of the layout, and the structures will be around the bus tracks, hence I can only do a boring oval running...

Hope to see your layout pictures/ videos soon!

I've always wanted to do this, and finally I did it. Place interior lights and changed to tight couplers on my  Tomix Cassiopeia set.

It looks great now!

Except something is wrong with the first car.. Somehow the clip doesn't want to hold it in on one end so the body is protruding at the end... I just can't get it in. Something is very wrong there which I don't know...

I've taken some interior pictures too. The interior is very well done in this model, we can even see the double decked compartments, with the chairs, tables and beds! I love the diner car, the small reflective glass on the table really hopes reflect the interior light and looks really like a cute little lantern on the table! Very romantic!

The locomotive looks great too with its lights and corresponding colour scheme. The lighted up rear with the wordings 'Cassiopeia' really adds on to the overall romantic feel of the train set!

The Cassiopeia is awaiting it's locomotive in the station... The EF-510 comes along and backs up to hook up onto the carriages.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMUUydLMFIA

Then it's time for departure!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lG8HmfZ4VK8

Watch the diner car! The reflected light from the small glass really makes it look like a lantern on it! Definitely fantastic!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Alqa1wt53AU

Passing through~~

Now I really like this train! It's a really nice sleeper set!

Hope you enjoy the pictures and videos as much as I had taking them!

*Apologizes they're taken with my phone hence the weird orientation on the video...*

Property have been springing up like mushrooms these a days in Takahashi town. We've gotten a 5-storey hospital, 3 new shops, an onsen, a public 2-storey mortar apartment and 2 small houses all courtesy of Tomytec.

What's really nice is the completion of the train shed from Kato. It looked really good!

Did I mention they're all lighted up in the interior?   :)

Off topic a little, how do you keep your Tomytec Railway collection trains?

I love keeping them in the hard-case boxes together with the other model trains!

Mostly motorized and in their original boxes. If you buy the collection boxes, they have complete trains in them with description of each train and the route they belong to on the back. I wouldn't throw those boxes away. (not to mention this is the only way for me to find out which car belongs to which train when i'm packing them away) For the few in the unmarked boxes, i just kept them in their own boxes too, but imho they sould be moved to something nicer in the future, preferably with the type of the train on the box.

I've been thinking about getting a few of the clear VHS cases and making some foam inserts then cutting the boxes up to fit in the case windows. Only trouble with the tomytec boxes so the flaps can be stubborn and they do rattle around in the loose plastic forms a bit, especially when motorized. They also can get crushed pretty easily if you accidentally put something heavier on them, which I've done a little a few times when reorganizing trains for shows with stacks of cases.

I like the dolphin train VHS case, works well and sturdy.

Ah yes, that was what I've done before, cause I love the boxes. Some boxes look so good, like the Evangelion and Shimaneko box. The Fuji Tozan Densha box even has photos of the actual train with the interior pictures which are very nice! However, I couldn't keep the boxes at a nice and visible display place as i'm running out of space on my display cabinet. Hence I kept the boxes where the trains were kept and placed them into my space collection case, which can be stored easily as I have a book case display cabinet. The disadvantage is I can't know which train is inside the box unless I make a note on the outside of hardcase box itself..

HHmmm.. you mean you'll place the tomytec box into the VHS case? Is it big enough? Some of the tomytec box are really thick, like the Shimaneko... VHS cases are neat too, but they can only accommodate around 2 cars? I saw an idea to purchase the VHS cases since they should be very cheap now (but might not be easily available), have some foam inserts for 2 cars, cut out the original tomytec box and slot them into the VHS cover like you would with the movie title.   :)

Link to comment

The VHS box is a bit smaller, so the box would need to be trimmed up and like you say go where the movie cover does.

Yes two cars, maybe 3 would fit. Most of mine are two car sets and a couple of 4 car sets.

You can still find the no hub clear cases with a full external sleeve for about a dollar each!

Also thinking i may try them for a bunch of kawaii freight cars I have

Just managed to have some fun last weekend with my trains:

A short visit by a vintage steam locomotive the C60-7 Tohoku type with Suha-43 coaches were sending the railfans of Takahashi town flocking to the station to see the connection process!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QqW3_vAAj-w&feature=youtu.be

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gR_vcL1e0HA&feature=youtu.be

Then on the same day after the steam locomotive left, an E655 Imperial train with special carriage made it's debut and a short stop at Takahashi! Man the rail fans are going crazy!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YlU-6e-8b_4&list=UUMsZPEtGH_aQe-mUQefq1jQ

Really love the Nagomi! It looks really grand in its dark brown and the interior lights just made it look even grander! Just couldn't get the orange filter to work nicely as it should, the light still looks white at times... The front flags are amazing!

More training fun!

Took out my Tomix E3 Komachi and installed interior lights in them.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsDqkjelPdM&feature=youtu.be

They look great! One thing, the roof is too thin and the bright interior lights seem to seep right through the roof....

And a short video of the De10 + Nostalgic view train. It looks very... Nostalgic! I like the  yellow and brown scheme, works very well, and the serene 'yellow' interior lights is a nice touch ~

It's a public holiday today, so I thought it's time to give my trains a little run down:

Today's topic: Commuter trains!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SqkTx60OZHw&feature=youtu.be

I really like the E233-6000! It looks really good! I went on ahead to stick in the decals, since I reckon it will be a commuter train i'll like to keep. Gonna edit the video with sounds soon. *Attribute the jerky running with dirty tracks, the motor itself is smooth running as silk.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jb16wbVCzBY&feature=youtu.be

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzuVZoO7zaA&feature=youtu.be

Alongside the 209-0 Keihin-Tohoku. Wanted to take the video of the E233 stopping in the station and the 209 pulling out, but forgot to slow down the train and the driver had to do an emergency brake!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVFF_kXgJiw&feature=youtu.be

And the trusty 209-500 Sobu line entering the station. Motor is kinda jerky on this one as it is a used set.

I had fun running and taking photos of the commuter trains! *Missing 231-500 Yamanote as I had only 4 lines...

Anyone can spot the difference between the 209-500 and the 231-0? I can't... They look almost the same, except for the colour that is. By the way, the tight coupler on the 209-500 shortens the train so much as compared to the regular coupler on the 231-0! Amazing large gap on the regular couplers....

The 209-500 is a 231-0 body with the equipment of the 209 series. If i understand it correctly, they are mainly based on the 231 series prototype and were meant as a stop gap measure until the 231 series became available.

Thanks guys for the comments! Appreciate it!

How about a mini set up to run them on? Trains are meant to be run you know~  :laughing3:   Like with my E651 Super Hitachi, I didn't know the motor was dead if I hadn't did a run recently.

The E233-6000 looks awesome, even the block number(?) is illuminated.

Yap I love that fact too hence it was the final push to go get it. I'm not sure if the former E233 train sets had this, but the illuminated block number is really nice looking and adds a detailed touch to it~

Thanks! Now I know the differences. Cause they really look alike, almost no difference in appearance. But the E231 series had so much difference in appearance between them, like E231-0, E231-500, E231-800 and E231-1000 all like different, likewise with the 209s, like 209-0 and 209-500.

Come to think about it, I need destination stickers to change my 209 and E231. They've been blurred on the E231-0 and missing on the 209, and they look kinda weird like something missing...

I only have space for a loop with two straight tracks on a table, so I usually lay it down for a test run but need to clean it up afterwards.

How about placing it below your bed? You can slide it out to play it..

Link to comment

Way too much dust over there that will get into the motors and wheels. Soon I'm going to buy a new desk and hope to be able to shuffle some stuff to create a bit more space.

Link to comment

A good solution could be to build modules that can be stored in a box. Easy to set up, easy to store, can't get dusty.

Link to comment

How about an ikea desktop and legs and then hang one of the smaller desktops below it a few inches down on drawer slides for the desk part and put the trains on top? So the big drawer is your desk top and can hold a folded laptop, etc. this is what I'm doing for my main train workbench with the workbench as the big pullout drawer and the top being more of a storage area or to hold models in progress. Pretty cheap and minimal engineering and you can fit a lot in in a smaller area than a regular desk.
