JR 500系
Giving JR Shikoku a little love over the weekend... 2000 series Nanpu Try and guess the pink train on the overhead track? 😛 Marine Liner pulls into station beside the Nanpu... A photo day for the rail fans! Sunrise Express decides to join in ~ Totally random shots around the layout ~ 12 Link to comment
JR 500系
This time, giving the private rails a little love... Kintetsu! 30000 series Vista car old livery is up first... Loves how the double decker looks on the Vista car... It joins with an older livery ACE 16400 series Guess who joins the party! Quite disappointed at how bright the lights are on the Shimakaze... Another one joins in ~ Just love the last shot... And a few videos ~ Don't know why the Shimakaze lights flickers so much when the other trains don't... gonna take a look at it again in the weekends... DanielMackay
Thanks for your comment in the intro section on my nascent rail fleet. I've been enjoying your layout planning thread here - about half-way through at the moment! 1 Link to comment
MichiK
Ha - noticed the cat "statue" for the first time - that's hillarious! It's the callico (and the drivers seat) from Nekoya Line People A, isn't it? Link to comment

I stuck the rest of the figures into my 1/80 bus, but the cat didn't have a place to go... so thought it might be a great idea for it to be a statue! 1 Link to comment
JR 500系
A little more work in the city centre... First, a 'Food street' for just in front of the tram station and after walking off from the main overhead station: It will sit in-between the train tracks (hence the fence) and the tram station... Plently of food stalls like Tako-yaki and Yaki-soba and places to sit in under tents... More pictures of it on the layout itself to follow~ 4 Link to comment
JR 500系
Next is a 'entertainment street' where there are little kiosks with games that one can play and win some small gifts! The gap in-between the stalls are for the pillar of the overhead station, to be shown in the next post ~ 1 Link to comment
JR 500系
And finally, how is all looks like on the layout! * Need something at where the maids are standing... maybe a mascot or a poster or something? Do you guys think I should have fences in-between the tram tracks and the walking street? Looks pretty dangerous to me ~ 😛 Edited May 23, 2020 by JR 500系 9 Link to comment

Sheffie
Disclaimer: My only experience of trams is from Sheffield. Safety railings aren’t generally necessary around tram lines. If you can cross a street safely, you can probably handle crossing a tram line. That said, safety warning notices should be posted. Railings should be used in stations and on either side of pedestrian crossings as well as anywhere you’d expect a crowd to gather near the lines. I have no idea what the Japanese take on that would be, but I’d expect to see either full railings between your market area and the tracks, or 50/50 railings and gaps. I really like what you've done here. It makes the station much more real Edited February 16, 2019 by Sheffie 1 Link to comment
Pauljag900
Hey sammy, looks fantastic buddy. For what it’s worth,I agree with Sheffi,we do nt have them over here. i ve visited both Manchester and Dublin in Ireland and there were no safety barriers there, the tram lines were just built into the road and there was a pavement, end of.I guess a tram is just a bus at the end of the day and runs on what is essentially an extended road. 👍👍😀 Link to comment
Das Steinkopf
I'm a bit concerned about the scale of the Maids, they are generally cute little things that stand at about 5' 2" (155cm) on average, these ladies seem to be at about 6'2" (187cm) and tower over everyone. Link to comment

Maybe they are 1/144 compared to the rest of the layout? 😂 Or they just need the little bases they are on cut away. Link to comment

I'd say as these kind of stands/stalls are itinerant and usually associated with some kind of festival, there would be temporary fencing to stop people spilling onto the road. Possibly just the ubiquitous black/yellow poles suspended between orange road cones. Local police and possibly security guards to keep order. Though as it appears to be an interchange with the station exit close by, and a marked crossing at one end of the tram stop, fixed railings would be likely to prevent people dodging across the road in front of trams. JR 500系
Thanks guys for the inputs! I think i'll go with some railings then, makes it look a tad safer especially during Matsuri time! 🙂 8 hours ago, Das Steinkopf said: I'm a bit concerned about the scale of the Maids, they are generally cute little things that stand at about 5' 2" (155cm) on average, these ladies seem to be at about 6'2" (187cm) and tower over everyone. 6 hours ago, katoftw said: Maybe they are 1/144 compared to the rest of the layout? 😂 Or they just need the little bases they are on cut away. Haha yeah I thought so too when I stuck them on... they seem a tad larger than usual ~ Maybe i'll take them as statues instead? 🙂 II'm thinking probably a poster of some sort of maid café would do nice at the centre where the maids are standing ~ 1 Link to comment
cteno4
If the maids are the old Pro hobby ones then they are 1/144 jeff Link to comment
Das Steinkopf
Let's just say that this is the only time I have seen a maid at over 6' tall. 3 1 Link to comment
cteno4
Most of the pro hobby figures were a bit big to begin with and then 1/144 scale to boot. Pewter castings also usually end up a big bulky as well. I don’t thing kobaru ever made maids. jeff Link to comment
JR 500系
OMG I haven't been updating this thread for a while... Guilty as charged... Adding a little something to the layout that I always wanted... an overhead highway bridge! Finished making asphalt on the road, and added lane markings... Please excuse the black tapes as they are meant to stick the pieces of thick plastic together... The look like expansion joints on a bridge though ~ Adding a little vehicles to make a highway, well, a highway! Not bad if I may say! Now is to wait for more side panels for the bridge, and then it's finally onto its piers for the layout! 🙂 12 Link to comment
JR 500系
Wow the bridge DID TOOK a LONG time... But finally it is done, and in the layout! Perfect fit! I hope it doesn't look TOO strange at that location... It was the most ideal location without blocking too much diorama items nor the space to place and change trains on the tracks... Here's the bottom view of what is supporting the bridge.... Some round timber columns and the wooden planks below the bridge served as a pretty good beam support! Now the fun part to load up the bridge with vehicles! 🙂 8 Link to comment
Cat
That is a mighty and bus-worthy bridge, nice job! Link to comment
cteno4
Nice, busy expressway is a nice scene. where’s the traffic jam of sammy’s busses?! Will be a nice to display some of them. jeff 1 Link to comment

JR 500系
And now, to share the massive traffic build up on the highway ~ 🙂 It's gonna take a while on this highway.... 😛 Gotta love the car carriers! Traffic I probably building up due to two trailers carrying heavy construction equipment under the guidance of some transport vehicles: A view of the 8 lanes on the highway Here's how they look within the dinning table itself~ 😛 Edited May 23, 2020 by JR 500系 11 Link to comment
