bikkuri bahn Posted October 18, 2012 Share Posted October 18, 2012 Another useful heads up courtesy of quashlo at SSC, regarding the FGT testing in Tadotsu, Shikoku. Some interesting shots, bogie model demo, interiors, etc. The standard single yaw damper per bogie side has been changed to double dampers. For traversing curves at higher speed the wheel base has been reduced by 5cm on the GTR 1 bogies. 1 Link to comment
Jace Posted October 18, 2012 Share Posted October 18, 2012 Thanks for post. For higher curve speeds they probably also softened the primary and or secondary suspensions. The use of a second damper is interesting - there's always a very subtle balance to maintain when running high speed on both curvy and tangent track. Improve curving ability and you often run into stability issues on the tangents (yawing/hunting). Stiffen the suspension for tangents and the trucks don't curve very well (high wheel and rail wear). I wonder if the dampers have different ratings and capacities with effectively two stages of damping. 1 Link to comment
