JR is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, and this month is also the 140th anniversary of the establishment of railways in Japan.  This poster was diplayed on a passenger overpass at Shiraoi Station, on the Muroran Main Line.  It's a two week-only offer, three days of unlimited travel on all JR local trains, for 7500 yen.  The slogan at the bottom reads "travel unhurriedly as you like all around the country".  If I lived in Kansai, (for example) I would use this for a trip to Kyushu, using local trains on the Sanyo Line, a full day riding trains in Kyushu, and return again on the Sanyo Line.

 

JR West is also offering a one day pass for all local trains including rapids and special rapids in its operating region.  This one costs 3000 yen.  I will use this on Friday on a trip on the Hanwa Line to Wakayama, and possibly on the Nara Line if I can squeeze it in during the daylight hours.
