bikkuri bahn
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKNy5wuuVas Heavy rains caused a landslide in a cutting, the front 3 cars were derailed by the debris. 11 persons, including the driver, were injured. Apparently the line has yet to be cleared for normal operations. Link to comment
ToniBabelony
My girlfriend notified me of this happening this morning. She found it very 'un-Japanese' that something like this could have happened. Luckily the accident wasn't as bad as it could have been. Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
Actually derailments are not rare in Japan, given the extent of track mileage, train frequency and the terrain, coupled with high precipitation, typhoons and the like. Just a few weeks ago heavy rains may have resulted in the derailment of a freight train up here in Hokkaido, which severed rail transport between Honshu and Hokkaido for a few days. This incident is getting big coverage as it is on a busy line in the Kanto area, and the fact that it has caused more delay than the typical disruption caused by high winds/signal problems/power supply failure/suicide etc. Link to comment

Guest ___
I liked the exclamation mark in the animation, however I'm sure what the motorman was thinking most certainly included a few more !!! Link to comment
