dwesterdale
I have a section of my layout that seemed like it could use some more trains - the lower facia board of my layout. So I decided to make some cutouts and lay some track work. Unfortunately at either end of this new line I have a 270mm curve that completes the loops. The curves are laid in peco flex track. Each end of the line completes a "P" shape that I have connected to kato double unitrack. The curves are tight because I didn't have enough clearance to dig under the mainline track foam, and I'm bumping up against brick wall in one corner. Does anyone know of a subway looking train that could negotiate this curve? I've got some kato centrams that will run it perfectly fine. The curves are in a hidden part of the layout so I'm not concerned about large amounts of carriage overhang, but I'd love something more train-like for here. I was looking at this set on plaza japan...http://www.ebay.com/itm/JR-Series-813-200-Kyushu-Area-3-Cars-Kato-10-813-N-scale-/360485302325?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item53ee993035#ht_2885wt_1055 Does anyone know what the minimum radius this set can negotiate? Or have any suggestions for something more subway like that potentially could negotiate this curve...? Thanks Link to comment
The_Ghan
This train will run on Tomix C243 radius track. You need 140mm straight section at either end before reversing the direction of the curve. Cheers The_Ghan Link to comment
dwesterdale
i should have clarified... the 270mm is the diameter... It would be a 135mm radius. Maybe if I but the set and cut a window or two out of each car it would work... :P Link to comment
tantousha
Nice trains... used to take them to work when I lived in Shimonoseki (and worked in Kitakyushu for those sharp eyed people who know these trains never venture through the Kanmon tunnel into JR West territory). The interiors were really cool (and sadly not represented in scale models). I have the set, but I don't have any tight radii to test them on... I do have some coming but they're somewhere over the pacific... I'll keep you posted if you haven't acted yet. Link to comment
The_Ghan
It won't go around such a tight curve. The motor car on it's own will, but I think 130mm radius is just too tight for a coupled vehicle of that length. Cheers The_Ghan Link to comment

A 135mm radius limits you to trams or B Trains. http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/list/838/0/1 http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/list/577/0/1 I`m not sure if the current Modemo Enoden models will go around that tight a radius, but that may be another option. http://www.1999.co.jp/search_e.asp?Typ1_c=104&scope=1&scope2=0&itkey=Enoden http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/list/1700/0/1 Link to comment
The_Ghan
The Tomix Hakone Tozan 2-car sets will get around such a tight radius, so I think the Enoshima stuff would be fine. Cheers The_Ghan Link to comment
