Korean National Railroad (KORAIL) HO models?

Hi all,

This is my first post to this forum.  I live in the USA and am retired military and government civil service.  I am trying to acquire at least one working HO locomotive/passenger model of each of the states and countries I lived in or was stationed in during my career.  That includes Korea and Japan.  So far I have not been able to locate an HO model of any kind representing KORAIL.  Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Dave

I've never seen anything like that, sadly, but occasionally I stumble on a Korean webstore selling Japanese trains. If I can find any of those again, I'll poke around and see if they have Korean prototypes. Perhaps they will have an email address that I could pass along to you to aid your inquiry.

Dave, should you be unable to find any Korean prototypes, you could simply use a TGV Atlantique trainset (either undec. or strip off the SNCF colors) and paint it in Korail colors, as the KTX-I high speed train is basically a variation of the TGV.

Thanks to all for your responses and recommendations.

I recently received a message from Mr. Chan Hur of Sam Model Tech.

He stated that:

"Unfortunately, there are no model train hobby in Korea, although many model manufacturers are here.  So, we have thought no market for the Korean railroad.  As far as I know, any Korean railroad model has not produced so far."

Looks like I'll have to improvise with available models of other countries.

Thanks again,

Dave

That's really unfortunate! And surprising! But at least you have your answer…I hope we were able to help!

As was discussed in another string on Korea (http://www.jnsforum.com/community/topic/2020-n-scale-in-seoul-south-korea/), there's a site run by someone named "germangray" that has many photos of both Korean train models and the real thing. There's quite an interesting mix of American, European and Japanese designs over there.
