stevenh
To all, I've just been browsing Google Maps and have found an old railway alignment complete with stations... The track seems to have been lifted. I cannot find any information on this on Google... was hoping anyone could help: https://maps.google.com.au/?ll=34.496751,133.952233&spn=0.007481,0.016512&t=h&z=17 From Uno, you can see the track heads north-west in a horse-shoe around the Junior High School. It then proceeds South-West through two tunnels, more city, over a bridge (which is now a bike path?), along the water then up to a station at Tamanotama Station. I can't seem to follow it any further (if there happened to be a tunnel in the hill behind.) Note the two visible stations on the line: 1) Directly in front of the first tunnel (just after the horse-shoe bend) 2) Right at the 'end'... unless it's not the end and the line continued. There could nearly be a station down in Mukaihibi... but the alignment would be buried under the road all the way... makes it hard from Maps to follow. Does anyone know what line this used to be? 1 Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
That appears to be the former right of way of the Tamano City Electric Railway (or Tamano Shiden), which was closed in 1972. http://6.fan-site.net/~haasan55/TamanoSiden.htm http://umemado.blogspot.jp/2010/06/blog-post_08.html There is a RM library volume (102) covering this line: http://shopping.hobidas.com/shop/hobidas-syoten/item/77705228.html Japanese wikipedia entry. 1 Link to comment
stevenh
Brilliant! Thanks bikkuri bahn! It seems to have taken a very sharp right turn at the end of the canal when I thought it had gone straight ahead. Link to comment
