Jace
Today I came across a very nice little book written by Akira Kishimoto and published by Kajima Institute. It's specific focus is structures made with used rail. Most of it is devoted to station platform canopy forms with well over 100 examples from all over Japan but there are also a few bridges and other structures included. There's a black and white photograph of each structure with details such as location, date constructed, form type and line. The photos are sharp with good detail, done very much in the style of Bernd and Hilla Becher. Here are a couple of links: Amazon Kinokuniya 4 Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
Thanks for the recommedation. It has a bonus in having a drawing of the basic structural shape of each canopy type. I try to photograph these structures on my travels, as thay are always at risk of being torn down and replaced with the "modern" generic structures (typically all right angles with no curvature) pic from inside the book: http://landship.sub.jp/stocktaking/archives/002768.html 1 Link to comment
CaptOblivious
Wait, station platforms made from used rail? You've just radically simplified my platform scratchbuilding plans! 1 Link to comment
