keitaro
no worries. The nsw state archives are slowly adding lots of stuff online via downloadable documents. no idea how long till anthing like this gets online but I imagine once it does it will be great for anyone scratch building larger models. cteno4
Actually doing all the cataloging is the lion's share of the work and the part that takes the most care. It's usually the stumbling block in many archival projects, so here's hoping the last step of the digitization comes soon! Cheers Jeff Link to comment
The_Ghan
Here's one of the Tasmanian drawings, Keitaro: It's a Robert Stevenson & Hawthorn "M" Class 4-6-2. I believe only 6 were ever made and I was told every one of them was preserved, perhaps because they were built so late in the age of steam - early 1950's. Two of them are at Don River Railway, Devonport, Tasmania which, coincidently, has a Dubs and Co 2-8-0 loco which looks similar to the Seibu in another thread. Unfortunately I think none of the steam at Don River are operational. When I was last there they were only doing railcar rides. Cheers The_Ghan Link to comment
keitaro
Nice that's the problem with aus too much red tape small non for profit places seem to be having a hard time unless there backed by state rail ... If my plans ever take off and I get the money I want to make some n models through kato/tomix so these plans are pretty handy 1 day. The main ones on my list to have done the most would be the c38 and streamlined and non Also the c35 and c36 Though that's just a really big dream of mine. Who knows if it ever takes off I may get a red rattler done in N too Link to comment
The_Ghan
Keitaro, I like the sound of those words. I'm putting in my order: 1. CPH Rail Motors 2. South Coast Daylight Express (only one consist ever made. Originally 6 cars, I think ... Mark knows the whole tragic story!) 3. Silver City Comet Heck ... I could list 30 or more consists that I'd like in N-scale ... Cheers The_Ghan Link to comment
keitaro
Yes I like the silver city comet too! Can't say I know much about the others. With number 2 not enough votes down south? Lol Link to comment
The_Ghan
keitaro, I would say that any kid growing up in the '70's who had an interest in rail fell in love with the South Coast Daylight the instant they saw it. Apparently (Mark, feel free to correct me), it was based on BUDD Rail Car design and technology but built locally in Sydney. Also, I believe it had the only non-powered BUDD car in the world, which was the dining car with the smaller "hump" on the roof - a small diesel motor for electrical power and a/c I think. The service number was C55, which I had mistaken for CSS as a kid until the guard at Oatley Station (the guy with the moustache, Mark) set me straight ... one of those embarrassing moments that lives with you ... The original consist was 5 cars: PHB.1141 (First Class) - FPB.1101 - BRB.1181 - PHB.1142 - FPB.1102 Sometimes a non-BUDD car was put in the consist: PCH1221 ... I have no idea what it was except it was silver and slightly out of proportion with the BUDDS. I think they ran that car when one of the BUDDs was being serviced. I think it became permanent whent the dining car, BRB.1181, was destroyed in an accident, or one of the motor cars was destroyed by fire ... details elude me. Anyway, the train was pretty iconic on the Sydney System, particularly on the Illawarra Line. Cheers The_Ghan Link to comment
