keitaro
hmm at first I thought this was an e4 but the front and rear are different. photoshop? old design or e7 it shows 8 car set but rumours have been saying 10 car set unless 8 car for test set.... http://q.hatena.ne.jp/images/question/1320232/1320232123.png Link to comment
Densha
What? JR East was stopping their double decker project right? That's why the E4's are going out of service in a few years as well. The color scheme actually resembles this, probably a huge coincidence, would it? Could you post the page that linked you to this image? Link to comment
disturbman
The E7 is supposed to be derived from the E2. This one looks more like a double-decker E5 than anything else. I would take those drawings very lightly, I'm not sure there is still a need for double-deckers in Japan. IIRC, the demand for travel should be shrinking with the population shrinkage. keitaro
agreed but it is the the hokuriku shinkansen for the extension going over multiple guages and possible into the current line at already high traffic. perhaps a double Decker is ok on slower lines with less train capacity to fit more per train. anyway guess need to wait for official announcement. train looks interesting though. Eisenbahn
Is there a way of finding out where and when and for what purpose this drawing was originally created? It would be good to get some official comment from JR East as to its status, or even a statement about their intentions about developing a new double decker. Perhaps a question at an annual shareholders meeting if any forum member was a shareholder and was in Tokyo for their agm. It would be marvellous if a new double decker was somewhere in the development pipeline. cheers....Eisenbahn Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
Until JR east has a new press release, this picture remains merely a flight of fancy. Probably by a fan. 1 Link to comment
