JR 500系
Wow thanks for the encouragement Jeff ~ Needing to STOP buying trains for a while and channel the fundings to HS for tracks & layout soon... Hopefully i can get ALL my available trains on the layout so i can run them as & when i like without having to take them out of the box and putting them back in like now... Took my 1/2 hour to set up the tracks & trains and another 1/2 to pack them all back in before the Mrs JR appears... Dont wanna be spotted with a 'new' train running around... 1 Link to comment
ToniBabelony
Also, if anyone is interested in low-priced 2nd hand stuff from Japan, I'm planning to set up a small informal business where I go hunt for items-on-demand at low cost whenever I'm out and about in the Tokyo area (Shinjuku, Akihabara, et al). I'll let you people know when I'm actually at it. Link to comment

Hi The_Ghan; luckily for me mine is understanding enough to not like LV, Gucci and designer brands, it's just that perhaps i'm not making enough for hobbies.. Her family needs us.. Wow that is also a very impressive list Sarah! Just realised you have so many versions of FULL running 500s! Salutes! Link to comment

Guest JRF-1935
Well I really haven't cataloged my entire collection - but as of right now I have over 184 cataloged early Tomy/Tomix freight cars , engines and sets, plus more to be added to my list as I haven't had time lately, but I figure the total will be well over 200 for Tomy/Tomix alone. Kato, Micro Ace, and Kawai is another story - easily another 15 or so engines plus freight. Passenger Sets - probably around 10, maybe higher. Haven't begun to catalog MOW either so that will be interesting when added up. Only 1 Modemo Tram, and a few Tetsudo collection items. (5) Eat your Heart out Linkey :P Rich C Link to comment

john_ibw
My collection cannot be compared to the likes of The_Ghan and others here. Those are huge and I will take another decade to get there if I get there! :) I am really glad I have purchased the following sets. I got them only after reading reviews and / or comments from members about them here at the forum. Thanks to the forum, I was never disappointed and love my small collection. The_Ghan
Yuh, but John, I have two icecream containers of assorted Lego dating back to the 1970's, Technic Lego Car Set 853 (complete), and Technic Lego Forklift Set 850 (complete). I've not opened the boxes in a while but, knowing me, the instructions are still in the sleeve in the lids. Now, I wouldn't be shy about your train collection if I were you, because if you compare my Lego to yours ... well ... enough said !!! Cheers The_Ghan Link to comment
JR 500系
HHhmmm i thought i heard Lego somewhere... Oh John please... Your collection is no way small to my understanding... Your post makes me wanna delete mine in an instant.... Actually, i almost wanted to pop this question but after seeing your collection, i got my answer.. Indeed there are collectors buying the same train sets in multiples! Nice! Link to comment
The_Ghan
Yeah, Believe me ... having a big collection isn't necessarily better. If I measure the "fun" factor in forum here I would have to say that Sir Madog is right up there, but he only has a handful of locos. Being time-poor I'm probably at the other extreme spending too much money on trains that I can't run yet. That said, I did spend much of the weekend DCC'ing ... JR: you should have a chat to John about Lego ... I believe you both have something in common there. Cheers The_Ghan Link to comment
linkey
Please don't start me with my LEGO collection list. As I am looking at a few of them right now including minifigs. Plus one MOC (My Own Creation) To add to my ever growing list of Train consists: KATO EF510-500 Hokutosei Color Series 24 Express Train with Sleeping Berths `Hokutosei (both 6 car sets) Anyone for a JR East running layout :P 2 Link to comment
john_ibw
Thanks JR and The_Ghan. I almost always forget my Lego when I am here reading about Japanese trains. I have to be reminded :) JR: I have started collecting in multiple certain sets. I wish I had done so with my OO and HO earlier. Also, we should connect via messages on the Lego topic sometime... The_Ghan had mentioned it earlier too. But, I was a little busy lately. Lots of changes for me. Re-locating back from Sydney to Bangalore, job, etc... Link to comment
The_Ghan
John, Recent posts have sent me to the "Lego Cupboard". I notice I have a third set as well, Technic Lego 852 helecopter. I'm not sure if it is complete. To be honest, several pieces might have been pilfered to complete the other two sets. As a kid I remember losing several of those little grey pin clips up the vacuum cleaner. Still, when I have a son (I hope Mrs_Ghan is paying attention here) ... I said, "When I have a son ... " the two of us can play with daddy's lego together. ... nope ... she's not paying attention ... Cheers The_Ghan Link to comment
linkey
lol..... Tell me if I am crazy buying a lot of LEGO City, I have got two Police stations, Fire Station, Garage/ Repair Centre, Airport, Coast Guard Helicopter, Air Control Tower, Coast Guard Base, 2x Ambulances, 2x Car with caravans (with bikes) and many more. I told you don't start me cause I can write a list of all of my LEGO collection including themes. :P The_Ghan tell Mrs_Ghan that Woen play with LEGO too and should attend LEGO shows. Link to comment
john_ibw
No, you are not crazy! I have been buying the modular series too. I have 3 grand emporium's, 3 fire brigade's, 2 tower bridges and the list goes on...fortunately, several of the high value sets in the recent have been gifted to me....:) 1 Link to comment
nik_n_dad
every so often, Nik and I take over a big chunk of the front room and dining room, and build-up a mess with HO trains, n-sclae trains, t-guage, the tomix bus system, and a set of lego trains. We'd probably get out the wooden trains if there were any floorspace left... Link to comment
cteno4
Dad, Ha true Japanese fashion! I wish there were a second kid in the house, then my wife might let me get away with that, but as the only kid in the house, I'm kind of out voted... I'm limited to my office, the basement and sometimes here parking slot in the garage, but that can't go past a couple of days! Jeff Link to comment

Judging on just the 3 sets listed, you have around US$2k value of Lego sets alone just on those! Wont dare to hear the rest!! HHHmmm... think i'm gonna start a Lego thread soon, whereby we can post some pictures too of our Lego collections/ MOCs/ Layouts etc. in the Off-Topic board before things get over the top here... I do hope to share some of my Lego trains pictures too! cheers! Link to comment
john_ibw
JR..I did NOT buy all of them! :) I cannot afford to buy so many of them. I led a large Lego build event as one of the 2 Master builders in Mumbai. We made it to the Limca book of records in India after we built a truck 13 feet long, 7 feet high and about 5 feet wide using about 200K Lego bricks. After the event, I received several sets as a gesture of appreciation from the distributor and the company itself. Apologize for having digressed from the original topic! Link to comment
