domino
Hey all It has been about 6 years now since i started modelling Japanese Trains, and i now have 45 Trains set`s , i only collect Passenger Train , no freight or steam, although i do have 1 C57 and the M250 both in DCC (thanks to Martijn), love it. So i was wondering how long you guy`s have been modelling Japanese trains and how many trains/sets you have, feel free to ad pic(in box is ok, you dont have to put them all on the tracks ) so we can see it. Sir Madog
Small, very small, indeed! 1 Kato Eizan Electric Rlwy. Series 900 EMU 1 Modemo Enoshima Electric Series 1500 EMU 1 Kato C11 1 Kato D51 498 That´s all! I hope to be able to acquire more Modemo Enoshima EMU´s, as I am changing my layout theme to be more in line with this tram like railway. I will keep my steamers, though. Link to comment
keitaro
There's plenty of roster threads out there I offered to manage one a while back but many people just have too many to list. I'll try modify this post later with mine. I have roughly 15 steamers, 4 ED/EF's', 10 Shinkansen sets, 1 Dr yellow' , 25 kihas and about 15 emus and some freight sets/passenger coach sets. And the C62 is sold I guess?) @keitaro Hmm... could that be an interesting thing for the renewed forums? A sort of database where we can store our models to show it to others? ToniBabelony
I'm currently inspired by this thread to make a database of my trains! It also gave me the idea to sell off a part of my collection (for very fair prices), since I plan to move to Japan in December and I need as little as possible personal belongings. I think it'll be up for sale on the forums in a few weeks. 1 Link to comment

ToniBabelony
It's not a big pile of trains, but I can do with less (specialising in interurbans). I can already say that there'll be a few JNR trains (not in mint condition at all) e.g. a Kato 117 Series and an old Tomix KIHA183. They are all worked on a bit (some for the good, some for the worse), so I'll be pricing them accordingly. Link to comment

The_Ghan
I hear you JR, I've attended several lectures over the last 12 months on "Home Economics and Family Budgets". Most seem to commence at around 10:00pm, and run until well after midnight. The lecturer is, of course, Mrs_Ghan. Like you, I've excluded steam and freight. I'm just not going to buy into that market for several reasons: 1. Japan has a unique proportion of passenger / freight rail. If you do a pax / tonne comparison Japan is at the top of the list. If you do a pax / car ownership comparison Japan also leads the way. The pax / car milage figure is also unique. These comparisons demonstrate that the people of Japan have a unique reliance on rail. I think Hong Kong, Singapore and Britian also have a high dependence on passenger rail, but not to the degree of the Japanese which I think would be reasonably classified as a "critical dependence". 2. There is just such a variety of passenger trains in Japan. This is also unique in the world. 3. From my experience decades ago with Hornby steam, the locos need to be treated carefully and are easily damaged. I often read of people having running problems with steam here on JNS. keitaro has returned several models to retailers that I know of. In order to curb my spending I've had to limit myself to several themes: 1. I've ridden on it; 2. Trains on regular service through Kofu, Yamanashi, since 1980. This includes seasonal services like the Holiday View Yamanashi, but would exclude the Imperial train, for example; 3. Tokyo subway. Some of the consists I own were early, careless purchases, such as the Nankai 50000, the Nagoya 8800, Relay Tsubame and the Hankyu 6300. Some like the Relay, Thunderbird and Fujisans came from an Ebay vendor in the US and I got them dirt cheap on Ebay while the AUD$ was high. These were each around US$125 - new. I bought 2 x Fujisans because I knew that there were only two consists. What I didn't realise was that each set contained BOTH consists with two motor cars. But hey, we all make mistakes. Both of my Kato 700 Series are second-hand from Ebay. One cost me $200 for 16-cars including freight and the other was $80 ... yes, $80 for an 8-car consist ... and it was only advertised as a 10-276. I got a 10-276 and 10-277 for $80 including freight and exchange rate. That was 2 years ago. At that time, I could get EMS equivalent freight for $25 for 1 train case, $39 for 2 train case and $50 for 3 train case from the USA. Not anymore. I was just looking at a 2-car Tomix 92290 100 series shinkansen add-on and freight alone for that is nearly $40. When I look at all aspects of the hobby: trains, track, furniture, tools, bases, electrics, DCC, etc., I've now spent just over $25k on the hobby. This half-year I've spent less than half my usual 6-month spend. I've spent less than $300 in the April-June quarter and nothing since. I'm planning to pick up everything on my wish list when I'm in Japan, which will save me around $350 in freight because I couldn't have done it in less than 4-5 orders. I wont mind some motorised single carriage Tomytec DMU so long they are working fine and the price is right since i dont even have one at the moment~ Yes Sir The_Ghan. I hear you too... And i thought quitting Lego means more cash in the pocket.. Haha... Luckily for me Lego has more 're-sale' value so loses are minimised.. No Sir, the trains in Sillypore SUPER SUCKS. In the recent years, the garment (<-our slang for our government as we are very pissed off with them) has totally FOCUSED on profits by PUSHING the so called 'PUBLIC transport' to a 'private company' to run and operate, but we all know who's the gang leader behind the whole plot. Thing is, trains start breaking down so often it affected so much people going to work everyday. So much so they now have to erect nettings, and you imagine, NETTINGS, all over the overhead tracks as they FEAR the SCREWS holding the rails can DROP off... WOW.. They havent been using the money from the public to maintain the trains and tracks, so the maintanence train was parked in the garage from god knows when.. And they dare call themselves 'world class'. They reported a profit of 1.7 billion SG dollars for public transport alone last year. Thought public transport is susposed to be run by the goevernment to service the public and not fleece them?? Apologises for flooding my anger on the government here, but i just couldnt stand the way trains are breaking-down so often and profits are still so high... Link to comment
Densha
@jappomania Maybe it's my ignorance in English, but what I meant is not opening every box of every single loco or train. I meant to say to take a picture of the whole collection at once without opening the boxes. It depends on how you store them if it's possible or not of course, but if you store them in a (large) box or shelf or something you could take just a pic of that. @JR500 Sounds like what is going on at many places in the world, especially Europe. Though it does sound worse where you live. Link to comment
