Okoba station switch back?

It's actually Okoba Station.  I'd have read it as Ohata or Obata too.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Okoba_Station .  The deeper into the inaka you get, the more creative the readings become, it seems.  Maybe that's just my perception.

I don't see anything about this part of the Hisatsu Line being closed or electrified, so I'm guessing services are still run by DMUs.  Although, the opening scene with that KIHA58/28 isn't something you can see anymore, JR Kyushu took these out of regular service completely with the March 18, 2007 schedule revision.

That's in interesting station, and both videos are great fun to watch.

The tourist posing in front of the train in the second video was noteworthy. I can't see anyone doing that in front of an Amtrak train even if people weren't freaking out about walking on the tracks; trains here are just too utilitarian.

And the brass and wood interior of the car, way cool. Maybe a bit uncomfortable on a long ride, but beautiful to look at.
