Experimental 430 km/h high speed train unveiled

18 May 2012

SOUTH KOREA: An experimental high speed train designed for speeds up to 430 km/h was unveiled on May 17.

The HEMU-430X (High Speed Electric Multiple-Unit 430 km/h eXperimental) has been developed with the aim of putting South Korea's major cities within 1½ h of each other, and to attract export orders for Korean technology.

It looks like a TGV-Shinkansen crossover. The window placing and how the windows look like are typically TGV and the upstanding part where the panthograph is looks like the TGV too, but also a bit like a Shinkansen. Maybe because the first Korean high speed train was based on the TGV and traditionally all Asian countries take a look at Shinkansen when building a high speed train.

Yeah looks like a hybrid. I guess when you are going to improve something, pick the best parts and go. It's just disturbing they couldn't make something completely original. Like a Formula One from end.
