LEGO Red Cargo Train

Just wondering if anyone has seen this: http://shop.lego.com/en-AU/Red-Cargo-Train-3677 and how close it does look like a DE10, I got asked by the LEGO group in Melbourne (Vic, Australia) to make a few chages to it to make it look more closer to the DE10. Not a hard task to do but the hardest thing is to find one of these items in stock as it is a hard to get item.

Wouldn't be hard. One fan on the long nose, check; slight change in coloration of roof needed. Will want to extend the walkway from the cab along one side. Long-nosed truck needs three axles, should be easy to shove one in there. Fiddle around a bit with some of the detail parts. Really, that model is shockingly close as is!

Heheh ~ Yap the recent red Cargo train. It was actually very similar to another release here:

 

So similar, just a change in colour... This set was released back in 2000, when Lego wasn't actually doing very well... Now this train in an unopened box will cost you a hand and a leg!

 

Yap i have to agree it is a close replica of the DE-10...

 

Unfortunately, being a noob in n guage, i wont be able to help you much in replicating the DE-10 in n guage scale. However, i should be able to help you to re-build it in Lego though as i have been into Lego for some long years now...

 

Anyone would wanna see the entire range of Frieght Locomotives Lego has released over the years, just for entertainment sake? I can post here if it is ok..

I'd rather buy the Tomix model.  That LEGO train is nearly $300.  Sheesh !!!

actually as i found out a while back there are a tone of dmu's that look like de-10 in many ways though the wheel configurations are different. that lego photo however is different configuration.

 

I'm really surprised there hasn't been alot of people buying up kato/tomix/GM de-10's and scratch building into any of those linked in australia. Well none that i have seen.

yeah but to get that many pieces out of your tomix you would need to step on it!

Yes Lego is continuously getting more expensive... piece count is also getting lesser... Although design is getting nicer...

 

The main problem is, Lego is far larger than N guage, and running a Lego layout is very taxing on a guy who lives in a 81 square metre box without the wife killing you about toys spilling all over the place... Besides, building structures to place in your layout is FAR more expensive than the layout itself, hence i guess one cannot have a really nice layout without having to sell your kidneys...

 

Hopefully that's not the case for N guage, i hope... *Fingers crossed*
