Cheers, Mark. Mark, by any chance do you practice mind-reading (from Australia, too!)?? When I saw these pictures I thought immediately about you... Now, how are you going to squeeze that tractor plant into your layout?... :grin Cheers NB Link to comment
marknewton
Nick, the only mind-reader in my house is the missus, or so she claims! I've given a lot of thought about how to represent the factory buildings. They're such a significant feature of the station that they must be included. I think the way I'll do it is to build them in mid-relief - as opposed to flats or low-relief - and have them forming a major part of the backdrop. I made some rough cardboard mockups of the main buildings, and they're quite large. I'm going to use the same construction method as I'm using for my scratchbuilt koban. I'll have a clear acrylic/perspex shell that will be skinned with Wills corrugated asbestos sheets. Cheers, Mark. 1 Link to comment
brill27mcb
You may want to consider flat-roofed buildings. When viewed from a non "head-on" angle, it will look less obvious that things (like the roof) are missing. Rich K. Link to comment
marknewton
Rich, ordinarily I'd agree with your suggestion, but these structures will project forward from the backdrop, varying in depth from 4 to 6 inches. They will also be viewed from the same level as shown in the photo of the mockup - the track is right at my eye-level here, so (hopefully) the lack of depth is not very apparent. But if that doesn't work out I'll be thinking of your suggestion! All the best, Mark. Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
Another view of the station area, in color from a later date: http://pds.exblog.jp/pds/1/200904/25/78/b0059978_23462146.jpg Alas, not only is the railway gone, but also the factory. Apparently an Aeon shopping center will be built on the vacant site. 1 Link to comment
marknewton
Nice photo bb, I don't think I've seen it before. I'm a bit sad to hear the factory has gone, I was rather fond of it. I know, most people go for traditional Japanese architecture, temples, tea houses and so on. Me, I like corrugated-cladding factory buildings... Cheers, Mark. Link to comment
