bikkuri bahn
Softbank plans huge Hokkaido solar plantWith output of 200,000 kw, facility will be nation's largest Kyodo Softbank Corp. has selected Tomakomai, Hokkaido, as the site for Japan's largest solar power plant, with an output capacity of at least 200,000 kw, industry sources said Wednesday. Softbank subsidiary SB Energy Corp. is planning the facility in anticipation of cashing in on the government system that starting in July will oblige power utilities to purchase electricity from renewable energy sources generated by households and other firms. http://www.japantimes.co.jp/text/nn20120404x1.html Well, Tomakomai is a good place for it- flat, lots of empty spaces, and the weather is reasonably sunny, even in winter, with light snowfall. Guest ___
this woke me up. Though 200,000 kw, is still a bit on the small size. 340,000 kw. Our local university is building a 75'000 kw system just for its campus. In an even stranger twist the town where I live in, with its grand population of 58oo is building a 100'000kw farm, so I find it laughable that a 200'000 would be Japan's largest installation. Side note for those of you who did not know, I spent two years as bb solar's global senior technical writer. Shame to see bp short sightedness in continuing to exit the market. Link to comment
