Train museum fetes first year, record turnout

NAGOYA — A museum showcasing steam locomotives, bullet trains and a magnetically levitated train marked its first anniversary this week with an unexpected attendance record of 1.09 million visitors

wonderful to hear! this bodes well for them to maintain a high visitor attendance. the last decade most museums have been really hurting, i know thats my biz...

Build a good railway museum in a major metro area in Japan, and you are almost guaranteed success.  Otherwise, have a touring exhibition from a famous European art museum, and you are looking at record crowds.  I'm looking forward to the new railway museum in Kyoto, which has the potential to be something special- both JNR/JR and private railway cooperation, and near/adjacent to the Umekoji SL roundhouse.

Your example of the mega traveling art show illustrates one of the problems in the industry. One thing museums have been doing is focusing on mega traveling exhibits to make money and forsaking their own local and specific interests. When they do get back to their own content they forget to how to talk intuatively to the hearts of their audience first.
