shogun
I've just been to the York NRM and they have a blueprint of the first Loco built by Japanese engineers under supervison of Richard Trevithick and Edmund Morell. Attached are photos: Link to comment
marknewton
I doubt that Morel had anything to do with the design of the type 860. He died in 1871, the 860 wasn't built until 1893 by the Kobe locomotive works of the IGR. In any case Morel was a civil engineer. Photos show the 860 to be a rather handsome engine in the style of the day. But being a cross-compound, I bet the crews assigned to work it weren't that fond of it. Cheers, Mark. Link to comment
shogun
I read Morel was an advisor as well for the first railway whereas Trevithick was the advisor to the construction of the first loco. The curious thing is I've read the 1st loco was 1893 - but the blueprint in the NRM is claimed it is the 1st and is dated 1897. Link to comment
