On painting (real) trains

Hi all,

 

When the smaller Japanese private railways purchase rolling stock from their bigger kin (and JNR), do they ever press it into service before repainting into the new owner's colours or do they repaint it before putting into service? I know of cases where the railway got "new" stock ready-painted from its previous owner (Choshi Dentetsu, Ueda Kotsu) and others where the rolling stock ran the the colours of its previous owners for quite a while (Wakayama Dentetsu, they simply could not afford to repaint their ex-Nankai trains in one go; and the Nagaden, who kept the paint scheme from the Odakyu Romance Cars). Is there a pattern?

hi Nick,

I think that's simple, matter of money.

In fact, chosi railway DEHA 2000 type was repainted after shipping

 

other case I know is the rollingstock is needed customize, repainted same time.

for ex. Takamatsu Kotohira Railway 1300 type

 

Because there is no needs to repaint , Odakyu HiSE &

JR 253 NEX was shipped to Nagano electric railway without repaint.

 

Afterall, I need to say Case by Case.

Domo arigatou, ISO8-san! Regarding the Choshi DeHa 2000s, indeed, they arrived in a beige colour and then were painted (one was wrapped in vinyl). But did Choshi use them in revenue service before they were sent to the paint shop?

you'll find deha 2000 under painting at Nakanochō station in 2009.

and you know, deha2000 started operation on Jul.24 2010.

So slowly debut !
