SONIC883_de
Hi, yesterday my first RTR brass loco has arrived: A World Kougei ED15-1 It isn't a very beautyful loco, but a nice part of the beginning in japanese electric locos. The ED15-1 is the only one which is stay alive Some prototype infos => http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%9B%BD%E9%89%84ED15%E5%BD%A2%E9%9B%BB%E6%B0%97%E6%A9%9F%E9%96%A2%E8%BB%8A Attached a photo (not a real good one), without couplers (in the box are standard Rapido) and some detailing parts (Type and name plates) More and better photos follwos this week. The loco is runinning smooth altough the gear has many placic parts. The part which mount the Rapido couplers to the body must be self bend (easy) and works fine. I will have a look for other (finer) ones. There is no working light. Overall a fine model Link to comment
stevenh
How heavy is the locomotive? I would imagine that brass would be heavier than a plastic version and therefore this one would have much better traction? That is the only thing that I miss in N Scale, the ability to make the vehicles heavier and therefore have more realistic physics when driving. Otherwise this is a beautiful example of an early Japanese locomotive! I bet it tore a hole in your bank account :P Link to comment
Bernard
Kai - It's a nice looking locomotive. How is it's pulling power have you tested it to see how many cars it can pull? Link to comment
bill937ca
Here's a similar ED18 in 2003. http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=ciSGPiJfYig&feature=channel_page Link to comment
C62
Beautiful model! I like the older Japanese electric locos. I hope Micro Ace will rerelease some of their models as I can not afford the brass ones. But I think that a brass one has something special. Maybe I should start saving for one. SONIC883_de
This one wasn't so exencive ( ~130 Euro). The retail price (printed on the box) is 26000 Yen. So the price I have paid is okay. The Loco is a little bit heavyer than an other EDs (73,74,75). I have actually no ramps on my testlayout and on a plain place it hauls 12 Kokis (one loaded with Pro Hobbys HOYER metal containers) without any problems. But how much wagons are prototypical? I will have a look for some black WAMUs und TORAs from Kawai for it. When I have to much money I will have a look for brass ones, too ;) @Bill: Thanks for the video Link to comment

railzilla
Bill, that ED18sounds like it has a diesel onboard Dont worry thats just the compressor for the airbrakes. All older E-Locos and EMUs make this sound. Link to comment
Guest ___
Bill, that ED18sounds like it has a diesel onboard Dont worry thats just the compressor for the airbrakes. All older E-Locos and EMUs make this sound. I was scared for a moment, but had sorta assumed it would have been a compressor. I recall a lot of our trolleys at the museum maker a similar sound however not nearly as loud. Link to comment
