Well tomytec is really catering to the train crowd now with sets of 5 of the same 40' iso containers. perfect for tricking out a container yard or your container ship! due out in march. aint cheap at like $6.25/container...

Do you know if the top lifting crane will adjust down to a 12' standard Japanese Container? 20'?

nope these are 20' w when pushed all the way in. even then im not sure they are designed for 20' containers or not. it expands out to 45' wide when fully expanded.

 

the 12' containers are usually moved around by traditional fork lifts and usually stacked 2 high, although i have seen some picts 3 or 4 high in some storage areas, but i dont think those were the usual sorting yards. 12' containers are mostly for interrail stuff packed from larger container into 12', then by train, then upacked into trucks.

So it won't handle a 53ft container? My fingers are getting tired.

well i think all the over 40' containers have lifting block at the 40' inner size with the expansions off each end. so i think they can be lifted fine with this.

 

i just realized i was measuring the fujimoto/pro-hobby unit, not the tomytec! one thing i just noticed is that the center bar has to stick out from the socket for it to reach to the corners of the 40' containers. you dont see this on the tomytec version, the center bar goes all the way into the socket when holding a 40' container (see the yellow circle below). boo boo on the part of fujimoto. i dont have a tomytec yet...

 

the fujimoto does have a few more details than the tomytec like some of the rear view mirrors.

I reserved one of the Tomytecs. The other one on eBay doesn't come close in detail.

actually the fujimoto has a bit more detail in parts than the tomytec (rear view mirrors, hand holds) you have to attach them, though so you dont see them in the individual packs you see on ebay. the hand rails are a bit more at scale as well on the fujimoto

 

the crane type is a tad different, mainly in the vertical lift. i think the tomytec has a better container holder with a bit more detailed parts and appears to not have the short center bar the fujimoto does to hold a 40' container.

 

tomytec has a bit more contrasting use of color except the hand rails are painted the same as the frame, fujimoto comes with black hand rails. ive seen pictures of the real ones both ways.

they yellow looks better than the blue. i forgot you can also build it with the cab in the low or raised version.

 

i forgot there is also the maruka container lift as well in collection 3
