worldrailboy
I knew I used to see a nice clean photo some time ago but had since long lost it somewhere so here begs the question, could it had been likely a one-time special run or were there any normal operation of express steam locomotives heading an emu train under wire? marknewton
There was a regular service using steam-hauled EMUs: http://www.jnsforum.com/index.php/topic,3729.0.html All the best, Mark. Link to comment
Nick_Burman
There was a regular service using steam-hauled EMUs: http://www.jnsforum.com/index.php/topic,3729.0.html All the best, Mark. But not under wire! I can't think of steam with electric MU under wire, however I know of at least one case of electric loco with electric MU under wire, without a single steep grade (like Usui Pass) to justify it...the Joshin Dentetsu does that more or less regularly with their two AEG electrics (as a railfan attraction and also to keep the two locos in good shape after the end of freight service). The railway uses MU cars behind the two locos as they don't have any loco-hauled stock of their own. The MU cars travel with their pans up to keep lighting, doors and A/C going while the locos do the hauling. Cheers NB 1 Link to comment

Looks a little on the too heavy side for a C11 to cope with out on the road, though. Link to comment
worldrailboy
nick i was talking about the 153 series on that other forum thread linked here just so you aren't confused by where the C11 actually came from here Link to comment
