bill937ca
In the early days of Tomytec warped bases were not uncommon, but until tonight I have never seen a warped base on a Kato structure. This is 23-235 Railroad Official Dwelling on the HS web site. Its a very noticeable warp. http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/image/10038044a3/20/3 http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/image/10038044a4/20/4 Link to comment
The_Ghan
Just out of curiosity Bill, what's the cure? Cheers The_Ghan Link to comment
cteno4
Ghan I've straightened many by hand. Others have suggested trying a soak in very hot water followed by straigtening. Jeff Link to comment
inobu
You know the world is changing when the Japanese start doing things half *ss. Either a blind man took the photo or the photographer didn't care. Then you have the guy at Hobby Search that posted the picture. I noticed that plastic quality is dropping in some of Kato's components. Most likely outsourced to China........... I think I might just outsource my train hobby to China. I'll just pay someone there to build my layout and run the trains, have him send me pictures of him enjoying the layout. That way I don't have to accrue any layout or equipment cost and just pay for the photos and maintenance fee. Outsourcing is about cost reduction right? Inobu 3 Link to comment

keitaro
it is unfortunate that china manipulates it's dollar to stay low and manipulates the yen to stay high. but of course this is so they can shake all manufacturing jobs out of japan. Oh and yes this does break many world trade laws but hey no one has the balls to do anything about it. but hey give the chinese some slack it's not the people just the dirty dog leaders. The_Ghan
I don't know that China is too concerned about the Yen. Many Japanese companies are moving or have moved manufacturing to Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand ... even India. Messing with the Yen isn't a good way to attract business from the likes of Sony, Panasonic and Toyota. Cheers The_Ghan Link to comment
Bernard
Bill - When you say the photo is from the HS website....is it in their product description? After seeing the photo why would anyone want to buy the structure? :confused3: It should effect the sales of this item. Link to comment

cteno4
btw the white sheet or paper under the building also looks a tad wavy so that just accentuates any warps or other visual oddities. also if they used a wide angle lens you can some fisheyeing and also some small digital cameras can do some odd distortions. but someone should have caught this and either used another unit and reshot it! not good for their biz. jeff Link to comment

keitaro
that is a really old product though 2004 so maybe the pis is of quite old stock. I have seen that before with out warping there could be many reasons for it being warped 2 like storage of these display items et. Link to comment
