And finally the 5000 series showed up. The 5000 series was often harder to catch. It didn't run every day.

Last to show up was the 20000 RSE. I didn't enter so these shots are from the other side of the ticket gate.

With the retirement of all of these trains, what are they going to replace them with or are they going to replace them? It's sad to see so many trains retiring within one month or even within 2 weeks.

The RSE 20000 and Series 371 set are being removed from scheduled service, but will still run for private hire.  They have been replaced with MSE Romancecars. I believe the Romancecar 10000 and 5000 are retirements due to age.  March is end of year in Japan and traditional time for revising schedules.  Its when lines are closed.

Unfortunately, I also read that Odakyu has truncuated the Asagiri run so the westward run now ends at Gotemba, not at Numazu. That is unless they've restored it for the summer season, so I'd like to know what is the current news on the route that Asagiri takes.

All Asagiri services terminate at Gotemba.  The market to Numazu and connections to Izu and golf courses on the Gotemba Line has never recovered post-bubble, anyway the train apparently runs quite empty on the Gotemba Line portion on weekdays.

I'm not sure if ending the train at Gotemba is a good idea, since it's a long way from Gotemba to the town of Numazu even by bus. That is unless Odakyu has ceded the passenger traffic from Numazu back to Tokyo to the trains on the JR Tokaido Main Line from JR Numazu Station or the JR Tokaido Shinkansen Line from Mishima Station.

Wow, that's a fair bit of stock moved on in one go.  Will miss those 10000s, the MSTS sim version really helped me learn a fair bit about how trains winded through dense city and picturesque scenery in one trip.  Amazing stuff.

*moderators: this thread is more than half a year old, it slows down older computers and those used by the public.  Can I suggest you close this thread and start a part 2? Thanks.

bikkuri,

It is torturous waiting for all the video and images to load ... while the latest replies continue to disappear off the bottom of the screen until the process is complete.  I went and made a cup of coffee while mine loaded because Mrs_Ghan was streaming video, which didn't help my bandwidth.

Hopefully soon we'll bump this to two pages.  The problem seems to be the huge number of videos and images in each individual post.

Cheers
