More hits for the fiscal 2011 year end.   Odakyu Electric Railway announced that Romance Car  HiSE (10000 form) Romance Car, RSE (20000 form), and commuting vehicle 5000 type will be retired during a diagram (schedule) revision on March 17, 2012.

In the article the retirement translates to private life, which may mean private rentals only for these Romancecars.

As mentioned elsewhere the JR Series 371 which are companions to the RSE 20000 in pool service are also being withdrawn to charter service.

Glad I rode the 10000 Series upfront once from Hakone Yumoto to Shinjuku back in 2002. Great experience! The 5000 Series were then also in full fling service. I think that was also my first non-commuter train experience in Japan. Also, the only time ever I rode dedicated Limited Express rolling stock, come to think of it...

this includes but not limited to 100 series fresh green i really would like a 2nd .... but i just ordered 2 subway's a kato version and the green max version so i can compare them.

i was close to ordering the odakyu but it's way left field of my sets.

since i am mainly subway / shinkansen / DMU and freight.

I wish i could ride on these but i will miss out i have only ever seen briefly.

keitaro,

Hahaha ... I wouldn't worry too much about my wife.  She's easily placated.  Just dangle something shiney in front of her eyes or mention Burberry or Louis Vitton ...

I saw the 100 series, but I have one already.

I have four Odakyu sets, a 3000, a 3100, and 2x 7000 (one used to belong to cteno4).  So I've reserved a 10000.

My Christmas order is held up by the Kato catalog.  I don't mind though, as the office is closed until the 3rd.

We should catch up for a beer over the break.

Cheers

They look newer and more modern than most new trains in The Netherlands :)

They recently announced they were coming out with new trains here, turns out they're just refurbished versions of trains that have been running since the 1980s.. (granted, they fixed up the interior quite a lot :))

I've been taking photos of the three retiring and the discontinued JR Central trains over the past few months, but haven't posted them. I'm starting now starting from the last run on the 16th. I was only able to shoot the 20000 RSE as I had to work that day.

I believe that this was the driver of the RSE 20000.

A select few were able to shoot from behind the barrier.

I like the boom mike, which I presume was at the ready in case the train decided to answer a few questions itself ...

Ha Ha, I know,.... that's how a fan was able to identify a specific train model just by listening to the whine of the motors starting up and going. I see a few fans with mikes but they usually record station announcements.

gmat,

I don't doubt it.  The sound, and smell, of particular trains is important to me too.  I used to love the high pitched whine of the 115-0 Yokosukas as I rode them along the Chuo Main line.  Here in Australia it was our old red rattler suburbans.  I actually used to enjoy the way the motors would trip out as they crossed a set of points along with the electrical smell and the sound of the rattling windows.

When those guys play their recorded sounds back in 20 years it will really, really take them back to that day!!!

Cheers
