i remember vending machines in i think it was 100 series double decker cars in the ends of the cars.

When the Southern Pacific in the 1960's downgraded their passenger train service in California and eliminated dining cars, they replaced them with vending machines, I think they were called "vend-o-mat" or something.

Vending machines on trains are not that unusual in Japan.

possibilty unusal for a suburban train, but not for a Shinkansen.

Looks a lot like the 415 series trains that used to run on the Joban line...

 

I've personally never seen a vending machine on a commuter train like that.
