Tomix Brass Line - Why did they stop this?

Hello,

I am wainting for my Tomix KIHA 35 Brass line. I had see them at a members collection and it was a must have for me. Cool running sound (Not the same like World Kougei) and some nice details.

The price for a 4car bass set is fair - so why does Tomix has stop the production of the brass line?

Kai,

This happens from time to time with Manufacturers of all types of hobbies. Tomix are not alone.

I have seen a manufacturer create a model of a C-141 starlifter aircraft which became extraordinarily popular, however they only did a run of 200 kits. They could have outsold that figure 100fold but chose not to and have no intention of re-running. Consequently they now fetch upwards of 200% of original price on eBay.

I would bet if you look back over the history of Tomix, Kato and others, you will find that they have all done this at one time or another.

Thanks. I am a big Fan of GitS and I love the SAC1&2 Series.

In this moment I am listening to the GitS SAC - Soundtrack 'Be human'

Any question?  ;D

@Darren:

Sure. But japanese modelrailroader love brass items. I had send some parts from germany to japan - only small parts in N, H0 an 0, but at all they take all that they could get.

Intressted in some parts? Not brass at all (most newsilver), but some nice details for a j-layout can be found here

The only different is, that the most japanese people I know don't buy RTR bass models.

And the brass line (RTR) wasn't expencive. 19500 Yen for 4 cars. My other loco which is comming this year is a World Kougei ED10 and this RTR loco is around 15000 Yen. So it makes me cry that such nice and payable products has no market

Tomix often make little sense - witness releasing the Asakaze train pack without making another batch of the additional coaches needed to build the full train. I can't fathom what they were thinking there!

Getting the full sets didn't used to be a high priority to people. While it was generally possible to get say a 16-car shinkansen, it used to be rather difficult with you needing to buy single cars instead of an add-on set. In some cases (older Kato 500 series for example) you bough 2 of the same 2-car addons, and had to manually alter the car numbers with the included decals.

Also, pretty much none of the big European brands (Trix, Fleischmann, Roco, Marklin etc.) make full train sets unless they're fairly short sets.

Personally, I like full sets, and I have plenty 16-part trains, but no idea if I'll ever be able to run them in such a way that they actually look good too ;)

Minitrix has an ICE3 high speed train set that consists of a motor car and the 2 end cars. Not other cars available... A 3-part high speed train looks..... Well.. Silly =)

if its anyhting like the fleischmann, they then charge you AUD $150 a peice for each carriage thereafter to have halfway decent looking train. Not impressed
