miyakoji
JR West's Shigino Station on the Katamachi Line, the first station east of Kyobashi, is where the northern half of the Osaka Higashi Line will split off and continue north to meet the Kyoto Line, either at Suita or, if they build some new track, Higashiyodogawa, in which case trains may continue on to Shin-Osaka. The southern portion of the Osaka East Line has been in operation for a while now, linking Hanaten on the Katamachi Line and Shinkami on the Kansai Main Line, but there were problems acquiring the land necessary to, presumably, widen the existing freight connector line and build some stations for this northern portion. Based on this thread at Onpuchchaneru http://rail-uploader.khz-net.com/index.php?id=993538 it looks like work has started. The first 3 images show construction, the third is a photo of the map that seems to be displayed at all Japanese construction sites. Note that this map is oriented upside down, that is, up is south and down is north. google map: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=%E9%B4%AB%E9%87%8E%E9%A7%85&hl=en&ie=UTF8&sll=34.695059,135.543684&sspn=0.00733,0.011662&vpsrc=0&hnear=Shigino+Station,+Japan&t=m&z=16 Link to comment

Sacto1985
I wonder what trains will JR West run on the Osaka Higashi Line once it is complete around 2020. My guess: either reassigned 321's or additional buys of the new 323's. Link to comment
miyakoji
At any rate, thanks for replying to my post from November 2011 :) Link to comment
stevenh
Just because I don't want to start a new thread... I was wondering if anyone has any more news on this? I can't translate the site, but it looks like they're still a long ways off completing it through to Shin Osaka. Actually, looking here (http://www.osr.co.jp/information/sinneki/sinneki.html) it seems that they have their work cut out for them when trying to double-track all the viaducts. From what I gather, the pedestrian 'road' on the Yodogawa bridge has also already been removed... and closed off. Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
The line is planned to be completed to Shin Osaka by 2018. Whether that will be achieved, who knows. The bridge over the Yodo River has been double tracked. From the same website, here you can click to see the progress on sections of the northern portion, updated as of March this year: http://www.osr.co.jp/construction/index.html#wrap 1 Link to comment
stevenh
For those interested, check out google maps. The north-most bridge required for the track to get to the WYE near Suita has been half-built and looks amazing in the 3D view. https://www.google.com.au/maps/@34.746934,135.5136941,247a,35y,39.47t/data=!3m1!1e3 4 Link to comment
stevenh
New post about the opening of all lines on March 16th: https://www.westjr.co.jp/press/article/2019/01/page_13607.html Plus a shot of the current test runs? Or is that an actual revenue consist? 1 Link to comment
Densha
Those must be test trains then, as official service will not commence until the start of the new timetable. Link to comment
