stevenh
I've always wondered what the side-ways tension would be like on the rails underneath? Marcus Wong from Victoria here in Australia photographed a similar movement: http://railgallery.wongm.com/works-trains/E106_1480.jpg.html Link to comment
Martijn Meerts
That'd be an interesting train for a layout... I guess you need cast-iron cars for it too work though, or very light and bendable plastic rail :) Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
These trains are called "ronchiki kourin" with the "ron" being short for "long rail", the "chiki" for the flatcar type, and "kourin" is short for "construction train". A search of youtube turns up a wealth of these types of trains, especially interesting are ones on lines which usually don't see locomotive hauled trains/freight. Double header of DE10s on the Kitakami Line in Iwate Pref: DD51 ronchiki empties, passing thru Ogoto Onsen Sta., Kosei Line, Shiga Pref: EF64 ronchiki empties, nice curve on the Chuo Main Line, between Sasago and Hatsukari: Link to comment
