I wish I could find more Ho Japanese trams beyond the Kato Hanover type given to Hiroshima!

Try Tramway.  HO kits will probably be brass.  HS has bodies, Plaza Japan has the chassis.

The Tramway models Bill has linked are injection-moulded plastic kits, either painted or unpainted. Tramway also offer a Tamaden Deha80 in painted or unpainted versions, as well as their own kit for a powered chassis. I have some of these kits, I can recommend them as being nicely finished and easy to build.

Masterpiece offer brass tram kits - available through HS - but these are a bit pricey, and really only suitable for an experienced model builder.

Modemo make a few plastic tram kits, the most common being the Enoden Type 100 cars, but they do a Toden 7000 series as well. These are also nice easy kits to build, but they're not powered, so you'd need a separate mechanism.

If you're willing to consider light interurban cars, the Tomix Kotoden Type 3000 cars and Meitetsu MoHa 510 cars are beautiful models, well worth having. I have 5 of each, and will probably get a few more.

Regarding the the Tomix Kotoden Type 3000 cars and Meitetsu MoHa 510 cars ; are they DCC ready or how hard are they

to convert to DCC?

I've not come across a single Tomix item that is DCC ready.

Neither of these models is DCC ready - the only HO scale models I know of that is DCC ready are the Toshiba 40-ton steeplecab locos by Tenshodo:

So far I haven't converted any of my interurban cars to DCC, so I can't comment on how difficult it would be. I imagine the main concern would be finding somewhere to locate the decoder so that it isn't too visible. Both these cars have low-profile mechanisims to allow a representation of the seating and other interior details.
