Nick_Burman
I've just purchased a Tomix ReSa12000 reefer and noticed that while the roof on the Tomix car is white, that on the Kato car is black. Which one is correct? Or are they both correct? Cheers NB Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
*I think you are referring to re 12000, as there is no resa 12000 series (there is resa 10000, a twin bogie type). Anyway, they appear to be both correct. I suspect the black roofed model is from the 1950's to 60's era, when many freight and passenger cars were painted black or brown to conceal soot emitted by steam locomotives. Apparently the roofs were re-painted in white from the 70's, when steam operation ended. 1 Link to comment

As for the roofs, it might be so, it might be not. The ReMu reefers ran behind steam but had white roofs right from day one. Cheers NB Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
Well, according to a 2ch post (not a 100% trustworthy source, IMO), the general pattern was wooden bodied reefers had black roofs, while steel bodied reefers had white. 1 Link to comment

Which would make sense - tarpaper roofs were common for wooden cars. Cheers NB Link to comment
