Mudkip Orange
In semi-rural/small town/outer suburban stations with faregates, are the gates typically between the waiting room and the tracks, or between the front and the waiting room? I know that Osaka Shiomibashi (Nankai) has them between the waiting room and the platform, but I'm curious to know if this is typical. Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
In general, in the outer suburban and town stations, the gates are located between the waiting room area (which often also serves as the ticket/lobby area) and the platform. Typically, train frequencies are lower, so passengers do not pass through the gates until say 10 minutes before the arrival time of a train. In the big city stations there are more passengers waiting and loitering on the platforms, thus you see more amenities such as kiosks, noodle stands, and climate controlled waiting areas on the platforms. Also, many suburban stations may not have any waiting rooms at all, given the nature of the train services, where most customers are either catching a regular train or the frequency doesn't require any substantial rest areas.
