...or of any express train plying the Tokaido Line come these images taken sometime in the 1930's between Kawasaki and Yokohama. The lack of trackside housing and industries is something difficult to be imagined these days...

More specifically, the location would be between Kawasaki to just outside of Tsurumi.  It starts with the crossing of the Tama River, passing through Kawasaki, then under the first truss bridge (carrying the freight line to the big Kawasaki marshalling yards?), then crossing the Tsurumi River, passing Tsurumi Station (you can see the Tsurumi Line terminal building to the left, as well as the big platform gantry crane for express freight, called teruha in Japanese), next passing under the Tsurumi Line truss bridge and the curve, then running along the narrow stretch where the hills reach down to the line (still exists), possibly around Namamugi, you can see on the edge the grade separated freight line which goes on to the Takashima freight yards in the Yokohama port area.

Yes, most residential and light industry was one or two stories high back then, and the sky was more apparent- you could actually see the horizon in many places. High rise flats (mansions) were still a ways off.  Heavy industry was more concentrated on the waterfront (as now), which would be to the right of the film view.
