Fast forward to 2004(?), Autumn Timetable revision: *a Shinkaisoku ("special rapid service") departing Kyoto Sta. every eight minutes- zokuzoku hassha! FYI-the "urban network" is a marketing catchphrase touting the speed and convenience of JR West's commuter services, especially on the Kyoto-Osaka-Kobe corridor, in the face of stiff competition from the private railways.
