bikkuri bahn
One station before Narita Airport, the Keisei AE Skyliners pass through at 160km/h (tho apparently lower now due to power conservation measures). Note the 6 lamp signals which provide the double green aspect to allow 160km/h operation. Otherwise a very quiet station, nice for an hour or so of trainwatching, though expensive to get to. *thanks to quashlo for posting this over at SSC 4 Link to comment
Darklighter
Great video! Some questions concerning those brown ties: - Are those made of plastic/rubber composite? - Whats the material between them? - Why are they used on straight sections? To make placing additional turnouts in these areas easier? Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
They are FFU ties (glass fiber reinforced polyurethane resin). I don't understand what you mean by material between them- perhaps underneath the rail rubber pads?: http://www.exblog.jp/blog_logo.asp?slt=1&imgsrc=200607/26/03/f0084703_2040071.jpg Sorry, don't know why they are used where they are (lightness?). Darklighter
I don't understand what you mean by material between them Instead of ballast some red brown material is used between those ties: youtube.com/watch?v=051F3IScCj8#t=437s (Argh, how can I include a youtube link without getting the embedded player?) ToniBabelony
This is quite a coincidence, as I've been working on a small report from 2003 from Keisei-Takasago, from before the Narita Aiport Access was completed. Services back then were all ran on the congested Keisei Main Line. If you visit my blog, you can see some old photos from 2003 with some rare trains: http://lasertrain.blogspot.com/ Please do note these are all scanned analogue pictures made with a simple camera. Back then I knew next to nothing about photography, so please beware about that! ;) Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
Instead of ballast some red brown material is used between those ties: Hard to see, but probably some kind of sound-deadening material. Recent construction at (mainly elevated) stations involves concrete ties and roadbed ,and to reduce the noise, finer grades of ballast are being used: http://blogs.yahoo.co.jp/fujik101/GALLERY/show_image_v2.html?id=http%3A%2F%2Fimg2.blogs.yahoo.co.jp%2Fybi%2F1%2F38%2F38%2Ffujik101%2Ffolder%2F487385%2Fimg_487385_19217168_3%3F1298177245 http://img.blogs.yahoo.co.jp/ybi/1/5c/15/yotajii/folder/1471157/img_1471157_59453371_8?1265153296 Link to comment
ToniBabelony
Yesterday I made an update on my blog, with an illustration which has a lot to do with the Narita Sky Access. I made it for the 1 year anniversary of the Narita Sky Access and an exhibition in The Hague in August, where I will have three pieces exhibited. Please visit it for further information and my thoughts on it! 2 Link to comment
