jappomania
Hi! Tsubasa is the name of the service (like Hikari, Nozomi or Kodama ....) 400 and E3 are different trains, for Tsubasa service you find 3 E3-1000 subseries and 12 E3-2000 subseries (built to substitute the 12 400 trains that's been withdrawn the past year The original E3 series run like Komachi service ciao Massimo Link to comment

jappomania
Of course, 400 series have a rounded nose and the front lights are up the frontal windscreen, the E3 is more squared and the light below the windscreen http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:JR_East_shinkansen_400_tsubasa_6cars.jpg http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:E3inShizukuishi.JPG you can see better the difference if you see the 400 old paint and the E3 Komachi BTW the first E3 set R1 (prototype have the nose much similar to the oldest 400 series and mixed light up-below the windscreen. http://userdisk.webry.biglobe.ne.jp/014/158/92/N000/000/000/125336983157916116700_DSA_7350.JPG the last built E3-2000 subseries have different light and new led destination panel near the door http://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:JReastE3-2000-1000.jpg in N scale you can find: 400 series in old paint scheme 6 or 7 car set and in 7 car set in new paint scheme (Tomix) E3 Komachi and E3-1000 Tsubasa from Tomix and Kato E3-R1 and E3 2000 nothing until now but you can kitbash one.. http://homepage3.nifty.com/ho-tec/tectop.html ciao Massimo Link to comment
200系
Domino, there is quite a difference between the 400系 series and the E3系. even though the 400系 used the same livery at the end of her career. the 400系where in service from 1992 till 2010 and has a much more curved nose, almost like an evolution of the 100系 nose design: (pic taken from wikipedia) where as the E3系 are in service since 1997, and feature a wedge like nose: (pic taken by myself) offcourse, those aren't the only external differences, not to mention the technical differences between the two, but those are the most vissible. Hope that answers your question. edit: seems like jappomania already provided the correct answer Link to comment
