jdnewemail
Does any on know if there is something like the Train Shed Cyclopedia series of books but for the Japanese Region? Or can you suggest a magazine or book that has scale drawings of freight cars, trains and the like? Link to comment
marknewton
The Train Shed Cyclopedia series were reproductions of material that originally appeared in US trade publications. While I'd assume that there were similar publications in Japan, I'm not aware of anything like the Train Shed books for the Japanese market. Neko Publications have a number of books in their "Detail File" series that feature scale drawings of locos and cars. http://www.neko.co.jp/index.php Individual issues of Japan Railfan Magazine often have scale drawings as well. All the best, Mark. Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
In addition to the above, the model rr magazine Tetsudo Mokei Shumi issued a series of books in the 50's and 60's, the TMS Stylebooks, with line drawings: http://www.railhobbies.com/hyousi/kigei1.html These are regularly available on Yahoo Auctions and possibly from Popondetta. Such publications are (aside from the Neko publications) not as common nowadays as most modelers are satisfied with rtr and kits (not surprising given the selection)- of course back in the day if you wanted a model, you often had to scratchbuild it.
