bill937ca
It's a duplicate post. The JAM photos were posted in November. http://www.jnsforum.com/index.php/topic,500.0.html Did you get permission before you posted the photos? Link to comment
Darren Jeffries
I am sorry, but Bill is correct (I am not sorry bill is correct... well you know what i mean! :P). We cannot post pictures here that are copyrighted to someone else without permission. Hobby Search admittedly have not put any sort of statement on their JAM pages to say that photos may not be reproduced, however unless there is a statement to the contrary we must assume that permission is not given. Please by all means visit the above post (linked by Bill) if you are interested in seeing Photos from JAM 2008. Link to comment
Martijn Meerts
Actually, if it's not specifically stated that you're not allowed to use the pictures, you're free to use them. Often though, the copyright statements are hidden away somewhere in a dark little corner of the site. Many people will also just use pictures until they get a note from the copyright holder to remove them. They can't sue you or force you to shut down the site without giving a warning/notice to remove any of their copyrighted materials. In fact, Google uses that strategy for their online library. They post copyrighted digital versions of books, and then remove those that people complain about. Link to comment

Like Images, since Subway was posting the images by using links to the originals, he technically wasn't copying them, as I understand it. It's a gray area to be sure, so I'm not saying anything wrong was done removing those images. And yes, I wish I could have been there too...*sigh* Link to comment
Guest ___
However note, hot linking can be troublesome because it is using their bandwidth. While the pages load under the forum, those images are utilizing HB bandwidth to link. IOf course to play devil's advocate keep in mind, it is also free advertising for them by using their images and linking to their site. Link to comment
SubwayHypes
yea sorry for the post i did not realize it was so strict here. i visit other forums that have absolutely no rules on hotlinking or copyright issues. from now on the only pictures i post will be my own. Link to comment
alpineaustralia
I am not an intellectual property lawyer but I can try to get some clarity on the issue from colleagues and revert back to the Administrators later. Link to comment
Darren Jeffries
I am not an intellectual property lawyer but I can try to get some clarity on the issue from colleagues and revert back to the Administrators later. That would be really helpful, thanks. Obviously i dont want to appear strict, but this forum is pretty new and the last thing i want to see is the forum prosecuted for copyright theft. As the owner of the site, I am legally liable unless I statement otherwise. That said, HS probably would not have minded too much, but again Bandwidth is an issue if we are hotlinking, and that does raise eyebrows. Link to comment
Martijn Meerts
If nothing else, just put up links to the images themselves, problem solved =) Link to comment

I gotta admit, I was a bit taken back by this as well, but oh well, that's the way the EMU rolls. Link to comment
