The_Ghan
Scott, Any chance of a propper scan? Cheers The_Ghan Link to comment
westfalen
Is there a date on the brochure? The 3100 series romance cars would seem to put it between their introduction in 1963 and the 7000 series arriving in 1980. Link to comment
keitaro
Just an observation but the number is in 8 digit format instead of 10 so it's either only showing local number or japan at one stage upgraded from an 8 digit service to 10. I tried googling but couldn't find info about having 8 digits. Although Australia once changed the dialing rules adding 2 digits back in the 80's could be similar for japan. If can find out if this is the case could help determine when it was before. Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
There is a possiblity the date is in small print on the back of the brochure, i.e. S50.1.23 (Jan. 23 1975). Link to comment
keitaro
One thing is for sure somewhere between then and now 500% inflation happened now looking at the current odakyu prices. Shinjuku 1 way to hakone is now 2020 yen back then 400 odd yen. Link to comment
scott
I'll check for a date once I get it out again. Not sure about full-size scans--it's too big for our scanner. But I might be able to borrow a big one. Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
Not much of a help, but the "Pioneer" boat pictured operated from 1964 to 1991. Link to comment
scott
No luck on finding a date yet. Link to comment
The_Ghan
Scott, Will you be scanning the brochure? I'd love a copy if you do! Keitaro, Actually, we changed from 6/7 digits to 8 digits for local numbers in 1998/99. Until then there were all sorts of numbers used. Eg: my uncle lived in the countryside. To speak with him I used to dial 0176 and ask for "Binnaway 5 4". Operator would call the Binnaway operator who would dial the 5 4 party line, which served two farms. Sometimes I would get he neighbouring farm. But they would hang up and the operator would dial again. Sometimes the Binnaway operator would tell me he was down the back paddck and I should try again in a few hours. There were occasions where we knew at least ONE of the operators was listening in. Those were the days .... Cheers The_Ghan Link to comment

scott
Scott, Will you be scanning the brochure? I'd love a copy if you do! Sure--if I manage to sneak some time on the big scanner, I'll upload the scans (prob. to Flickr) and post here. Link to comment
marknewton
Judging by the graphic design and typography, I'd say it dates from the mid to late sixties. Cheers, Mark. Link to comment
westfalen
Whenever it was, going by my four trips there, it was the last time they had clear enough weather to see Mt Fuji. 1 Link to comment
