westfalen
Here's a video and some photos I took on a fantrip today run by Trainaway Tours, the group I've been to Japan with a few times. We took Budd railmotor 1901 to Tiaro (Tie-roe, rhymes with Cairo), a small town of about 400 population 236km north of Brisbane for a BBQ lunch at the local pub. Tiaro is about as far as you can get before lunch time and the Station Hotel has been a regular stopover for lunch on fantrips over the years so Trainaway chose it as the destination for what may be the last of our trips with 1901 as QR's excessive hire fees (I was told Trainaway made a huge loss on today's trip even with the $85 ticket price and ran it just for the nostalgia of one last trip), lack of destinations as branchlines get torn up and QR's over the top safety regulations that make it difficult to run such trips these days. 1 Link to comment
Bernard
Not only did you see some interesting trains but some beautiful country side as well! How long did the whole trip take....and there is another question I've been meaning to ask....there is a scene where a truck is running on the rails, when a vehicle is running with it's tires on the rails doesn't wear down the treads quickly? We left Roma Street at 7:25am, arrived at Tiaro at 12:20pm - departed at 1:50 and arrived back at Roma Street about 6:30 around 20 minutes late after getting knocked by the Saturday afternoon procession of northbound freights and the Spirit of the Outback on the way. The truck was doing ultrasonic testing of rails, you will notice the testing equipment towed behind. I've never thought about wear on the tires. Link to comment
